Learn Art with Me - Watercolor Basics: Setup

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

Hey guys! Another Watercolor 101 video here for the absolute beginner. In this video I go over the basic setup you will use in watercolor with your dirty and clean water containers; I also explain how to cleanly switch between colors using the same brush.

I am trying to get all these 'prerequisite' videos done first, before moving onto simple exercises; that way someone who is brand new to watercolor has a set of videos they can follow to get setup and then will be ready to practice the simple exercises that are to come.

I definitely need those brushes hahaha

Your videos are very good quality as well🤩

It’s good to review basics as well....I don’t use two waters, now I am going to start that habit today.

yeah I did that for a bit, but when you start using lighter colors it has actually affected the color on the page once I put the paint down! Plus there is virtually no downside to using two anyway other than the extra 15 seconds it takes to fill up a second container - and it actually probably saves time because now I can let my dirty water get really dirty before finally putting new water in there lol, whereas before when I used one I had to constantly replace the water before it got too dirty.

Thanks for stopping by and watching the video!

I was really tired today or I would of responded more to your video, I'm still recovering from a cold. I didn't mean wasters, I meant water lolol....I think your video's are awesome!

Thanks! i needed that. I'm such a klutz with watercolors lol and ends up with things messy so I tend to stick with coloured pencils everytime my daughter asks for my help in one of her school art projects

awesome, i'm glad it could help! You can create some really cool things with watercolor that are actually very simple; simplicity is the key, which prevents colors from mixing and then creating muddy colors, etc.

When it comes to art, I don't think there's a true "basic" since everything feels like it's always never enough. I still haven't gotten hold of equipment, but I've already squared away money for it. I've been so busy with tons of stuff, and I feel like I've been slacking off on this. I really want to get a solid setup down before the formal tutorials begin. Nice instructions for this though! It doesn't feel like a beginner's tutorial and yet it's very beginner friendly. The setup of the workspace is really an understated part of the artist's environment.
