@drugwars creators: please give some hints on the fighting system

atm there seem to be two different ideas about how the battle system works:
1.) as described by @timcliff:
Units which do more damage will be better at killing more of the opposing player's units.
Units which have higher defense will not die as quickly when fighting the opposing player's units.

so actually it would make sense to have units defending with high attack value as they will as defenders kill the attackers? so attack value is always the damage done to the opposing unit and defense value is like health or shield... how much hits a unit can bear - no matter if in attack or defense situation?

or
2.)
A unit while attacking only relies on their attack value while a unit defending only relies on their defensive value...
So if you want to defend your base a high attack value would be no good and vice versa..

and what about melee vs. range units... is it just that range units get the first shot and then the melee units that survive can counter?

I can understand you do not want to issue too much information yet.. however this is so crucial I really think you should make some comments...
