What is Lucid Dreaming?

Do you dream at night?

You may say "yes", "no", or "sometimes". But it's actually a trick question - you dream every night. If you have a moderate skill of dream recollection, this post is for you.

Becoming Lucid

You've probably heard the term at one point in your life but never really understood what it meant (or gave it any thought). You've also probably had a lucid dream or two, yourself... Have you ever been dreaming and then suddenly became aware of the fact that you were dreaming? That's exactly what it is (in simple terms).

If this has happened to you, you most likely woke up right away - that's normal. If this hasn't happened to you the best thing about it is that anyone can do it! But it gets deeper.

Regular Dreams

Although I don't like the word "regular" because dreams are extremely complex, there is a difference between being lucid and just dreaming as usual. I personally believe dreams happen outside of the mind. In your subconscious. When you "normally" dream, you are unconscious in your subconscious. You create the realities you experience and your thoughts become visual - you just aren't aware you are doing it. I think there are two general ways of dreaming. And I like to describe it like being at the movie theater. Some people dream and they are just there for the ride. The dream could be extremely vivid but they have little say in what's going on. Those people are watching a movie. Other people like myself, are in the movie. While still being unconscious and not lucid, I make decisions in my dreams. I have all of my 6 senses. And yes I mean 6. In my dreams, I am speaking to other characters. I fly. And I also run from monsters. My dreams are like movie plots. Extremely detailed and vivid. But I am not aware of the fact that it's a dream until I wake up.

Back to Lucid

When lucid, you are conscious in your subconscious. I started having frequent lucid dreams at the age of 4 but didn't know they were uncommon until I was a teenager. I could be doing anything and then suddenly I would think to myself "This is just a dream. I'm asleep right now". And then I could do whatever I wanted. Once you are aware you're dreaming, you are able to manipulate the reality. When I say you can do anything, you can do anything. It all has to do with your willpower. As I said before, it's common to wake up after becoming lucid but you can work on this. Lucid dreaming has an infinite amount of benefits. Simple to extremely complex. But I think everyone should practice it! Here's just some of the things you can do because I know even though I said anything you still don't even know what to think:

  • Fly
  • Eat
  • Do work/homework
  • Time travel
  • Have sex
  • Practice psychokinetic abilities
  • Smoke the fattest blunt with your favorite celebrity
    AND SO MUCH MORE

A Scientific Debate

While not proven, many people consider lucid dreaming to be a form of Astral Projection. Scientists however, still believe they are two completely different things. I say why not? I believe all dreams happen outside of our bodies somewhere on the astral plane. But unless you are attempting to have an out of body experience, then you just stay in your subconscious. Lucid dreaming is also one of the best ways to start an OBE. How does this work? When you become conscious in your subconscious you have more control over everything. The astral plane is separate from your conscious mind but also a part of it because our energy is one. Since you're already out of your body, you just work your way out of your subconscious and into the astral. They're all frequency based realities. This world and every world included.

In Conclusion

I just wanted to make more people aware of this wonderful phenomenon. If you have never experienced this I highly suggest looking into it. You don't need to be spiritual or even believe if it's real or not because um...it is. Do you believe in science? Exactly. If you have experienced this but they don't last long, start practicing! I will be making a How-To post on this topic very soon. Thanks for reading! Love & light

Thanks for the interesting read. I mostly have vivid dreams like you and occasionally have a lucid dream!

I find that there are some factors which influence the type of dreams I have. For example, I tend to have more detailed or lucid dreams when I'm the most tired and was deeply engaged with what I was last doing or pondering.

Cheers!

Thanks for reading! My lucid dreams don't happen as frequently as they used to but I'd definitely agree my dreams are more vivd/lucid when I am extremely tired... I think maybe it's because since you paralyze yourself when you sleep, a tired body is more grounded and therefore allows your experiences to be better? Not sure where I'm going with this thought but I appreciate your interest!

Interesting thought on the astral projection! That was what I wanted to talk about in my next post. Hence the multidimensional aspect in my title. Recently, as I start being more self-aware. I realized my lucid dreams becoming more elaborate and detailed, and my dream time sometimes stretching to weeks that it feels so surreal waking up back to this "normal" plane

Thank you! I While I haven't had a "great" lucid dream in a while, I've noticed I'm on the verge of becoming lucid almost every night. I used to be so good but I haven't been practicing. I've never had a conscious OBE, but I want to master lucid dreaming because I truly do believe it's one of the most efficient ways to do it. But I will be looking for your next post!

Thanks for the post! I love reading about this topic! I absolutely love lucid dreaming =] I usually fly around. But I just love the feeling of waking up in a dream and being completely conscious! I also like looking at details in the dream and like zooming in on stuff like looking at peoples faces and seeing the amazing details like the real world! It's incredible :D

You know, I never gave the small details any thought...I will try next time. Thank you!

You're welcome! Astral projecting and lucid dreaming are my favourite hobbies :D

Still working on my first AP! Let me know if you have any tips :)

Ok I will do! I wrote something about it on my blog but I just joined up and wanted to put something up quickly so I will try and write something better in the near future to try and help people =]

Great article! Thanks for the info :)

You're welcome, thanks for reading :)
