THE GRAPHITE

Graphite (/ˈɡræfaɪt/), archaically referred to as plumbago, is a crystalline form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a hexagonal structure. It occurs naturally in this form and is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions. Under high pressures and temperatures it converts to diamond. Graphite is used in pencils and lubricants. It is a good conductor of heat and electricity. Its high conductivity makes it useful in electronic products such as electrodes, batteries, and solar panels. Wikipedia

AS A DRAWING TOOL

Graphite can be found in pencils that serve different purposes such as sketching, adding texture, creating shadows, creating the sensation of depth.

*how do we achieve this?

This is possible thanks to the different hardnesses of the stroke.

Have you seen the letters and numbers inscribed on the wood of your pencil?

They are the ones that will indicate us which is the hardness of the graphite with which we are working. Having a nomenclature that is usually expressed by the letters H, B and F, and a numbering that goes from 2 to 9.

I usually use a 2H pencil to make the sketch in an initial stage because it gives me a smooth stroke that can be erased. When I am interested in making drawings exclusively with graphite, besides using the pencil mentioned above, I also use a 2=HB pencil because with it I get harder strokes.

Cómo es costumbre, cada sabado comparto con ustedes lo que he aprendido en mi semana creativa. A veces son cosas que leo en internet y adapto a mis habilidades o son cosas que me va dando la práctica diaria. El día de hoy conversaremos sobre el grafito.

EL GRAFITO

El grafito es una de las formas alotrópicas en las que se puede presentar el carbono en la naturaleza. Otras formas son diamante, la chaoita y la lonsdaleita. A presión atmosférica y temperatura ambiente el polimorfo más estable es el grafito. Sin embargo, la transformación del diamante en grafito es tan extremadamente lenta que solo es apreciable a escala geológica. Wikipedia

COMO INSTRUMENTO DE DIBUJO

El grafito lo podemos encontrar en lápices que nos serviran para diferentes propósitos tales como hacer bocetos, añadir textura, generar sombras, crear la sensación de profundidad.

.... Pero...

¿cómo logramos esto?

Esto es posible conseguirlo gracias a las diferentes durezas de su trazo.

¿Has visto las letras y números inscritos en la madera de tu lápiz?

Ellos son los que nos indicaran cual es la dureza del grafito con el que estamos trabajando. Teniendo una nomenclatura que se expresa por lo general con las letras H, B y F, y una numeración que va desde el 2 hasta el 9.

Por lo general yo suelo usar un lápiz 2H para realizar el boceto en una etapa inicial debido a que me proporciona un trazo suave posible de borrar. Cuando estoy interesada en realizar dibujos exclusivente a grafito además de utilizar el lápiz antes mencionado también suelo ayudarme con uno 2 = HB ya que con este último consigo trazos mas duros.
