Would you use a donations feature on Steem?

So this is a feature I've been talking about for a bit now because I think it would be really valuable to Steem.

Currently, the user experience on Steem is tailored for giving people upvotes. If you're a Steem veteran and you ever use Steemit, you're probably using @steemplus so it doesn't suck. One of the things SteemPlus offers is the ability to see how much each users upvote is worth. Every additional frontend was built with this feature by default. Why? Because duh, it's something you want to know.

You want to know who gave you what and if you're the one doing the giving, you probably want it known that you gave. Every platform that has a functionality of allowing one user to donate to another user has this functionality. So why our UX for giving upvotes makes sense, the UX for donations doesn't.

Maybe people think that with the primary functionality of Steem being the ability to reward people without actually spending your own money why would people want to donate?

But I think we're missing out on a big opportunity here, because it takes a LOT of money here to have a valuable upvote. But MANY more people can afford to donate a dime, a quarter, a dollar etc.

What I'm hoping for is a UX where donations are just as visible as upvotes. This way, whether you're a plankton or a whale, a Steem maximalist or a casual user, if you see something you REALLY like, you can give someone a tip and have that be visible to the world.

I'm aware that @steemplus already has this functionality, but it's basically hidden, and invisible to the ouside world. IMHO it needs to be visible, and on display on the content that you're donating for. Something like this.

So my question to you all is, if this were available, would you use it? Would you donate to people here on Steem?

  • Yes, I'd like to have this option too.

  • Nah, you take your upvote, and you like it.

We already have this option.

One way: The image of the Steempeak profile in your post - you go to "Actions" and voilà you have "send STEEM to" :)

Another way: in Steemworld scroll down to Tools, there you find "transfer".

What? Too complicated? You don't have Steemworld open in a tab all the day? If I really want to send some of my hard-earned STEEM to another steemian that's not too much effort. Otherwise it would be enough to simply leave a vote...

This isn't about the functionality. As I mentioned in the post, obviously I know you can send someone some Steem, the issue is the UX for doing it. It's not like people don't donate to people. If you watch youtube or twitch or have seen a patreon page, you've seen this. The problem is our ux isn't set up for donations, it's more for transfers(same functionality/different idea) a donation is targeted at some specific piece of content, a post or a comment. The psychological effect of that is quite a bit different than money just appearing in someones wallet.

I cannot figure out what the trick is in the display because it is no different from what I see on posts. I cannot see the donation taking effect.

By the way, I will not be donating because I am currently not doing donations and this feature will not change me otherwise. If I intend to do a donation, I could do a transfer from my wallet transfer.

No need to publicly show that I am giving out something and some people will take advantage of this to gain some pride.

It’s a great feature man.

For those who are in a position financially to donate this will empower even more people.

You can send any Steem or SBD amount to any other account, any time.

I know, this is more about UX and how it’s visually displayed. ie showing up on the post rather than just in their wallet.

Understood, "The hall of fame". All people want to feel important, but they want others to talk about them, too.
