2 Cents from a Minnow
What the heck did I get myself into!?
When I first heard of Steemit, I had no clue what I was about to get myself into. Like many others, I seen the potential Steemit had and the positive outcome it could have on my life.
So.....SIGN ME UP!
I was so incredibly eager to jump right on the Steemit train. I made my account and immediately I got my email stating that I would receive another email when my account was approved.
Then the dreaded wait began. I checked my email non-freaking-stop for days. 6 days to be exact. On day 6, I was locked and loaded.
THE WAIT ✋
You see, at first I thought the 6 day wait was pure bs. Way to get discouraged, right?
WRONG
There were several bonuses to the dreaded wait.
Since I wasn't able to actually write a blog, I spent my time brainstorming ideas for myself. Which I still have a list of blog ideas written down in my Steemit notebook.
That was bonus #1.
Next, I spent my time lurking on Steemit. Something that I highly suggest all minnows do. Steemit is not Facebook. It shouldn't be treated as such. I read many do's and dont's post. Before my account was even approved I had gained some knowledge of what to do and not to do.
Here are some quick tips
- do not spam in any way, shape or form
(Yes, reposting your own work is considered spam) - do not use another individuals words without giving them credit
- write valuable content
- do not be an overkill
- use relevant tags
--
Those are just some quick tips. I will get into the nitty gritty details on tips I've learned another day.
That was bonus #2.
The next thing I did was creep. The only time in my life that being a total creep could possibly pay off. I went through so many Steemian profiles. I looked for the successful post and took my own tips and tricks for becoming like them but in my own way. I asked myself many questions during these creep sessions that I went on.
My main question :
What makes this post so successful?
From there I was able to take notes. The style in which these incredible Steemians wrote. The high dollar topics. Simple and sweet or long in-depth post. The tags that have the most post.
I'm sure that you get the idea by now. Besides, you would need to take your own notes and ask your own questions in order for you to gain the most out of your experience here.
personalize your experience
That was bonus #3.
Tip of the day!
You can find out who creeps on you
In the top right corner of your Steemit dashboard, there will be 3 small horizontal lines.
Click on the Steemit App Center. This will take you to Steem Tools.
Next, search for UPVOTERS
You will then need to input your screen name.
After that you will easily find who has Upvoted you. Everything is in one place. It is a very convenient way to see who your biggest supporters are.
I also want to share with you a Steemian that I was inspired by from the start.
Check out those followers!
I then went onto several post to see if I could learn any tips and tricks from her. It was no surprise to me to see her pure dedication to Steemit. That is where I desire to be one day!
P.s. you rock! @purepinay
So, there you have it. My two cents for the day.
This is assignment #1 in the #dolphinschool course. This course is where I learned the tip of the day.
Check it out here if you have not done so already!
Or follow @markrmorrisjr to stay in the loop on this course.
Please, show your support with an UPVOTE, RESTEEM and FOLLOW @magicalmoonlight
Wow, what a post! You nailed the assignment and created a post that is just stacked with value! I'm making you my dolphinschool resteem of the day. So, for the critique, value adding. A link to the upvoters app we talked about today, would have been beautiful in that CREEP section. Also, at the bottom, I'm assuming you left that message for me because of bandwidth. If I were you, I'd go back later when you can and update the post without that. Also, if you know how to do a hyperlink, build one for the dolphin school link. It's messy, but seriously, wow, 98/100 I just have to find something to correct, or you and @buzz can just take over for me! LOL
Yay! Thank you so much. I'm working really hard to better myself. I have corrected the post as you suggested. I learned a lot today and I can't wait to get started on some of the advice you gave. You have no idea how much knowledge I gained already! Im excited to see what's in store for tomorrow.
You know what I find, 25 years into earning my living in the arts? I don't know half of what I've learned. It's like using a fork, you don't know all the skills you know, until you start sharing and others, who didn't have your path, are wowed by stuff you take for granted. I'm sure there are many things I could learn from each of you. "Each man is your better, in some way. In that way, learn from him" Ralph Waldo Emerson #humility
Great post! Had me drawn in from begining to end, kinda caught me off guard with the dolphinschool drop at the end. I literally through my head back and said "Oh! That was a dolphinschool kid?" Seriously, nailed it.
I missed this course round due to bandwith issues, finally just started working this evening but I'd still appreaciate it if you followed me @doc-gonzo
Good job on day 1. Coming out hot.
Ahh, such great words of encouragement! Thank you so much. I was happy to accomplish the task. I was really nervous going into this course. I've never done anything even close to something like this!
Wow @magicalmoonlight, a great post...knocked it over the moon.
This is a great post, the way you fulfilled the challenge, and presented a fellow Steemian to us. And it's a new name to me. You've got a good style, so you'll do just fine here.
After checking out your post, those are some serious words of encouragement. Thank you very much. You got a new follower from me!
We're all in this together. Very happy to have been able to encourage you.
Nice one bro we gonna make it.
Check my post https://steemit.com/dolphinschool/@solomon507/dolphinschool-bootcamp-day-1
Thank you! I'm going to check yours out now :)
I like the "creep" aspect lol... i would have cslled it stalking and i have done my fair share of it since joining steemit. The wait for my password was painful too lol. Great to see you at #dolphinschool. See you round!
It was a tough choice between creep and stalking. The word creep just fits me better haha I was so glued to my email during that time of waiting. I will keep my eyes out for your post! Yes, that means I'm going to creep lol
Awesome I posted it yesterday. Well my yesterday lol. I've added the link here for ease for you. https://steemit.com/writing/@insideoutlet/exciting-dolphinschool-starts-today-and-project-asapers-is-live see you soon 😁
dang that caught my attention pretty much from start to finish. I am definitely going to check out @purepinay. Also love the creepiness you have. lol. I want to be a creep on steemit too :p
Happy to had followed you. Thanks.
Thank you! I sure hope it pays off being creepy considering I blasted my secret lol
Great assignment! Thank you for detailing your learning experience from the beginning... The only time I ever wrote a tutuorial, that was how I did it... Simply recording my own trials as I started (this was with fractal software) and it ended up being a great success. The appeal is in the honesty =)
I look at accounts like @purepinay and am honestly rather intimidated. Not only about imagining how I'm going to get @mandelsage there, but also at the thought of such high-calibre accounts ever noticing a minnow like me. I guess all you can do is write your best, and hope for the best. Thanks for sharing, dear classmate =) Looking forward to your next post in our #dolphinschool adventure.
That so true. I always say that things that happen to us are never defeats they are simply lessons learned. Which can then be turned into a great tutuorial! I'm honestly right there with you on being intimidated by those very successful people on Steemit. It really adds to my motivation though. Trust me, I have no idea how I will ever make it on top here or if I even will but like you said all we can do is try and hope for the best! Keeping my eyes out for your assignment from today.
