To fix or not to fix..steemCreated with Sketch.

So my dog Alaska has apparently attracted the attention of several male dogs at the dog park. So much that we can no longer take her if there are any other dogs there.. which kinda defeats the purpose..

When I originally got her my plan was to let her have 1 litter and try to recover some of my money.. but I didn't realize she would be getting harassed at such a young age... she's only 6 months old.. Will getting her fixed cure some of her energy? Does it make a difference in a dogs life wether or not they've had puppies?

Any advice would be helpful...

I am more versed in cats than dogs, but I know it can start young and if you get them fixed before they ever go into heat, you seriously lessen their chances of some types of cancer. I would guess it's a similar situation for dogs?

Idk... both the cats got fixed as soon as they were old enough.. female cat in heat one time will make that decision easy.. but I don't know about the dog..

A beautiful dog. I guess the question is why did you get her?
I've had 2 dogs, neither had litters. Both were wonderful family pets.
The 2nd did get "attacked" in a park, and that changed her forevermore.
Always nervous around other dogs after that. So we walked early am with few others around.

It's a family pet.

Beautiful dog!

Our female Italian Greyhound had three litters. The first two were purebred, and planned. Then she had an "accident" with our Chihuahua, and we figured she'd had enough, so we had her fixed after the mixed pups were born.

People couldn't get enough of the mixed-breed puppies. We gave one to my mother and someone offered $2000 for her! We kind of regretted having her fixed ever since.

She's 18 years old now, though, so clearly fixing her late didn't have any negative health impacts. In fact, she had a vision problem that always seemed to clear up when she was pregnant.

I don't think fixing a female dog would do much for her energy. Puppies are going to be hyperactive no matter what you do.

A greyhound and chihuahua mix? How is that even possible lol..

Thanks for your information...

Italian Greyhound. She's 12 lbs, about a foot tall.

The Chihuahua is 4 lbs and 6 inches tall. He jumped up on a pile of pillows!

As they said in Jurassic Park, "Life finds a way!"
