MEET "ROSEMARY" OUR NEW SHEEPDOG!
Getting a dog was something that I've been avoiding.
They don't lay eggs, we don't eat them, and I've seen anyone milk one. With that kind of viewpoint, a dog may not seem all that useful at a first glance. I know that some people like them for companionship, but I've got a wife and five kids, so that niche is already filled around. Finally, a friend made us an offer that we could not refuse, so now we've got our first dog!
AN "UNREFUSABLE" OFFER?
Yeah, that's why we didn't refuse it. Actually, the family that we purchased our last set of Jacob's Sheep from has become some rather good friends of ours. As we were discussing various aspects of life, they mentioned that one of their guard dogs was pregnant. Since they also keep goats, sheep, and chickens, they've got a team of guard dogs on their property. The kind that they like best is a cross between Anatolian Shepherds and Great Pyrenees.
Normally, they sell the pups for $100 USD each, so when they offered us a free one for our homestead, we chose to accept. This one in the photo above we did purchase though, as a gift for @bluerthangreen and @allforthegood. Interestingly enough, it was @allforthegood that shared the ad with me for the Jacob's Sheep, which is how we met this family in the first place!
This is our little girl that we've decided to call "Rosemary." She won't really be a "pet" per se, but will be more of a "work dog," with her "work" being the job of keeping our livestock safe. She'll pretty much live with our sheep and goats and keep a close eye on them, protecting them from any potential predators and also chasing off the little pests like raccoons and opossums.
Ultimately, we finally a good use for a dog on our homestead and obviously the price was right! She's a beautiful dog and we are happy to have her. Also, for all of you "dog people" out there, "the Peppers" are glad to finally be one of you... or seven of you anyway...
Moreover... I just found out that there is a #dog tag... LOL!
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Yeah, you definitely have another kid now.
Man! it is so nice, it will keep the kids busy.
Such a cutie.
A lot more will be seen from this dog.
Thanks for sharing.
Cute little gal. Do you have to train her to work or she knows it through instinct when she grows?
Instinct should be the driving factor, but we will dial her in with some training.
Congratulations to you both!
Aww, she's so cute! And you can't beat that price for a dog ;)
Beautiful dog. I am happy you made good friends though it all and hope everything works out great for all of you. Yours are always worth a read. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! I think she'll work out great!
