Goodbye Dmania - 2 May 2018 Shut Down

So its official the 2nd of May 2018 has come around and dMania true to @zombee's words has shut down. You are now greeted with an error message and just like that its gone!

The founder and operator of @dmania has decided to close its doors instead of battle through the backlash from abuse allegations after the steemit delegation audit, it is shame but, not really unexpected. The platform was also bashed considerably for rewarding players and not having correct attribution of rewards.

People are understandably taking sides and both have grievances they would like to argue for and against the shutdown. The dApp space is still in its infancy and im sure this won't be the last shut down, but its step forward in my opinion. Eventually, the community and developers will come to a consensus on what they feel is the ideal solution, but that isn't right now

One thing that the app developers and owners are going to have to come to terms with the cryosphere is that they are going to be under scrutiny and at times, they are going to make mistakes. So as we say goodbye to dMania the doors open up to new opportunities.

Thanks for the memories dMania it was fun while it lasted.

While I don't think we should give up on the platform so easily it was never going to be perfect from the get go! I'm sure many steemains have seen the value in a dmania style platform and we should see copycats and competitors trying to replace it very soon. I personally enjoyed dMania and having the opportunity to create, share and enjoy some of the finest memes on the internet. The idea at its core was a great one but reward abuse and disparity and the overflow of plagiarism were slowly bleeding the platform dry.

Hopefully, the next iteration of this website will address these issues immediately and give us something we can really get behind and support as a community
