7 Tips for Selling Your Personal Items and Making a Good Profit

Hi Friends!

As I've been starting to pack and prep for my move, I have been getting deep into purging times. I've been busy listing and selling items all week - which is why this topic is so top of mind for me!

I have been getting great prices for my times - and the truth is, I always get great prices on anything I sell and it's not because I'm some sleezy wierdo.

In this video, I talk about 7 key steps to getting the most out of selling your items - especially when listing them on community sites such as craigslist and Offerup.

Here are a few examples of things I've sold this week that:

  • A couch set that I paid $700 for 6 years ago. Sold for $600.
  • A bookshelf I paid $50 for 6 years ago. Sold for $50.
  • A chest freezer I paid $200 for 6 years ago. Sold for $175.

I could keep going... but you get the idea! It's really not rocket science - but there are a few things you can do to help increase the perceived value of your piece and help connect it to a buyer that will really love and appreciate it.

I hope you guys find this helpful! If you have any questions at all - don't hesitate to let me know.

Greetings, beautiful and dear coruscate

Thank you very much for the tips. I'll try to do them the next time I try to sell myself something.

Now I'm going to sleep, because I was putting subtitles in the video that I'll post tomorrow and I'm very tired. This is 2:00 am.

Thank you and good night!!!

I’m so glad you found this video helpful @juliasavio! 😃

This was super useful, thanks Lea! I need flip more of my stuff now haha

Yay! I’m glad you found it helpful Kevin! Yeah it’s pretty crazy how much money going can make from just selling a few household items or pieces of furniture. It helps when justifying the expense of getting something new too. Haha

refeshing my gear is one of my favourite things to do haha

Yessss I do the same things!!! All this advice is spot on. And, actually you said one thing that I don't do when it comes to selling personal items- and I'm glad you mentioned it- but I do sell items less than $45-$50 but honestly, I agree with you that it's not worth it.

So in the future, I'm going to do that your way also. Great video. It's so crazy. I applied some of this same stuff back when I rented out my place on AirBnB and I would always get booked so fast even when I didn't have any reviews yet. Love it

Ooh nice! Your a smart cookie - so it doesn't surprise me that you've got this stuff all figured out! For items less than 40/50 bucks I still sell them - but I just drop them off at a local consignment store that sells home and kitchen items too. I don't know if you have that around where you live ...but I can actually still make a nice profit on those items without the work of selling them. It's a nice way to offload some smaller items. :)

Hello @coruscate what software you are using for thumbnail pic & what's the dimension I can't make a perfect one.

Ooh great question! I use Canva. It is a free website/app and they have a ton of great templates/design options. You want to select the "Youtube Art" dimensions to get a perfect fit for videos.

Excellent advice! I took notes and appreciated the sound wisdom in the video. Thanks.

Awesome!! I’m so glad you found it helpful. 😃

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

have been getting great prices for my times - and the truth is, I always get great prices on anything I sell and it's not because I'm some sleezy wierdo.
It should be weirdo instead of wierdo.
