DIY Bone Broth Recipe

in #diy6 years ago

Hey everyone. Today I will be doing an easy bone broth recipe. Bone broth is super healthy and I highly recommend that you start drinking it on a daily basis. Lets get to it...

Ingredients Needed:

2-3 lbs of bones from a healthy source. If you are new to bone broth, I recommend starting with Chicken bones over beef bones. The chicken bones will give a lighter flavor that may be tastier to beginners. You want to make sure that your bones are from free range chickens or at least organic chicken bones

2 Chicken feet to help give your broth more gelatin consistency

1 Onion (preferably organic)

2 Carrots (preferably organic)

2 Stalks of Celery (preferably organic)

2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

Optional Ingredients: Any herbs or spices to your liking, 1 tablespoon or more to taste of sea salt, 1 teaspoon of peppercorns, or 1-2 cloves of garlic

You will also need a large stock pot to cook the broth in and a strainer to remove the pieces when it is finished.

Directions:

Step 1 is optional. If you want a more roasty flavor, then you can first put your bones in the oven and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This is more common when using beef bones. For chicken bones this step is not really necessary. You can always try both methods to see which flavor you prefer.

Step 2 Place all of your bones in the stock pot and fill with water. You want the water to cover all of the bones. Next add your Apple Cider Vinegar. This will help extract the nutrients from the bones as it slowly cooks. You could also use something acidic like lemon juice if you do not have apple cider vinegar. You want to use cold water and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes in the water and vinegar mixture.

Step 3 Bring your water to a slow boil. Once the water begins to boil, lower the heat and let it simmer at low heat until you are finished making your bone broth.

Step 4 As your bone broth cooks, you will notice white film/impurities rise to the top. You want to skim that film and remove it from your broth. Use a wooden spoon to scoop it out and discard in the garbage. You will notice that if you do not use organic bones, there will be more impurities than if you had chosen pasture fed bones or organic bones. It is recommended to check every 20 minutes or so during the 1st two hours of cooking.

Step 5 Once all of your impurities are removed and your bone broth is at a low simmer, you can leave it alone for a long time. For chicken you want to cook for around 24 hours, and for beef bone broth, you want to simmer for up to 48 hours. During the last 6 hours of simmering, this is when you will add your chopped vegetables listed above, along with any herbs, spices, salt, and pepper to your tasting.

Step 6 After simmering for 24 hours for chicken bone broth or 48 hours for beef bone broth, you can remove your broth from the heat and let it cool slightly. Strain using a metal strainer to remove any bits of bones or vegetables. When cool enough, place the broth in your glass jars and store in the fridge for up to 10 days, or you can freeze your both to keep it fresh for an extended period of time if you will not finish your broth in 10 days.

Step 7 Enjoy your DIY Bone Broth!

Well that is all for now. Thanks for stopping by. Let me know how it goes for you. I love bone broth. It is super healthy and really easy to make. You just need to plan ahead and have a little bit of patience. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank You for sharing this fantastic recipe. We just purchased bone broth from Whole Foods earlier today and it cost $70!

The recipe you have shared will be nutritious and should save money compared to purchasing from the local store.

Oh yea...it will be MUCH cheaper. It is very convenient to just get bone broth on the spot though, because it will take you at least 24 hours to make your own. However, I believe it is totally worth the wait.

We will definitely try and make this bone broth. Thank You for sharing this fantastic recipe.👍👍👍

Sounds like a cool idea

I used to drink this when I get sick and all and it always makes me feel better . It’s just hard to eat everyday

I agree. I like to a make a couple of mason jars worth in one shot, that way I have plenty of broth on hand to last me awhile. You can also try freezing some in ice cube trays, so you have little servings that you can add to dishes while you cook.

That’s true . Today is the perfect weather for some as well. I heard like hot water is good for loosing weight as well

The healthy diy of the day thanks for sharing it dear

No problem. Enjoy

@therealwolf 's created platform smartsteem scammed my post this morning (mothersday) that was supposed to be for an Abused Childrens Charity. Dude literally stole from abused children that don't have mothers ... on mothersday.

And the reason why is because @therealwolf is disgusting slimy pedophile that enjoys abusing kids. Here's proof of him upvoting child porn on the steemit blockchain. bigbadwolf indeed.
