Dishonest ethics by a software development company 'NewAge'

in #dishonest6 years ago

Introduction
This report includes the ethical analysis of the issue that software development company named as Newage sold a buggy operating system to a hardware company XYZ. XYZ installed that buggy operating system on the tablets. Which caused various issues when these tablets are sold into the market. So, affected individuals have sued XYZ and further XYZ sued Newage for providing them buggy operating system.

Stakeholders Involved
In this issue various stakeholders are involved, who had the responsibility of deploying proper functioning operating system to XYZ. Stakeholders included in this report are Newage software company, XYZ manufacturer, Mr. McBright, Mrs. McDonald, A Bank, TastyBurgers Pty. Ltd. Mr. McBright was the charge of testing the software in NewAge. He has to report to his senior Mrs. McDonald. She is very complacent type of person.

Ethical Dilemma
Mr McDonald and McBright were aware of the issue that they are proving XYZ with buggy software. Each of the employee from the NewAge has failed to comply with the Ethical values of the IT work environment. Due the Mrs McDonald behaviour she wants to deliver product as scheduled rather than the fact that OS has bugs. Although OS can provide basic functions, she must have thought either It won’t affect much. She was not thinking of the consequences that the affected OS can cause. Additionally, as moral and ethical person Mr McBright should have opposed the decision of the McDonald. But he helped to keep the secret whilst breaching the ethical values of professionals.

Mrs McDonald’s dilemma
Here, Mrs Mcdonald was in the dilemma that if she report the problem to her seniors, she might be considered as less competent employee. Also, their company’s reputation will be at stake because of the fact that her staff was not efficient and was not well trained. Mrs McDonald has ruined the reputation and profits of her company. She has never trained her staff to the current best software development practices and only hired less-efficient staff. Her behaviour always kept the linear graph of the company’s growth rate. As when McBright reported her about the bug, she never tried to solve the problem rather she was more interested to meet deadlines to deliver product because she might be thinking that she should deliver it before deadline, while supressing the other facts. This all was due to her nature.

Mr Mcbright’s dilemma
Mr Mcbright was in the dilemma that if he favours Mrs McDonald to keep secret then his job is more secure because she is his senior. Other he could do that break the news of the bug to other employee’s in the company and to inform the XYZ. In this case, he might be devil in the eyes of Mrs McDonald.
