Do You Think Science And Philosophy Should Be Connected?
So I thought of trying polls on @discutio for the first time since I got to know that it became available. So I make this poll because of all the Quantum Mechancis related content I've been going through.
You could try some related old articles from me below:
Most of philosophy is just a bunch of ramblings of people who probably new nothing much at all. Sometimes it is just one person paraphrasing another person. If science says some philosophy is BS, then it shouldn't be considered legitimate. Science ad Math should be the ones that keep philosophy in check instead of some ideological warfare.
Science and Math is neutral and I consider that philosophy a something that could guide the science and I consider it to be something that can enhance the scientific progress. Neither are infallible as they are products of human beings who can easily get things wrong. But when effectively utilized they can be a great force like Yin and Yang being 2 sides of a coin IMO.
Do You Think Science And Philosophy Should Be Connected?
Yes, They Will Enhance Each Other
No, They Should Be Kept Separate
It Could Work Under Some Circumstances
Both, modern materialistic science and modern neo-liberal philosophy are garbage, and they would both help each other greatly joined together in a dumpster.
There is no separation between physics and metaphysics. It is a continuum.
Everything done in science and philosophy over the last hundred years is wrong, and needs to be thrown out. Even "modern mathematics".
Now, speaking just on the subject matter of science and philosophy, science has no heart, and philosophy has no brain. Or, you really can't do anything that is humanity helping by only focussing on one or the other.
Amen!
BTW what exactly did you mean by "modern mathematics"? Did you mean things regarding probability?
"modern mathematics" -
Well... do you know the assumptions of mathematics?
The feeling i was trying to convey is similar to this quote you imaged.
Why do they teach calculus right after algebra and trigonometry? Why not discrete mathematics? I use discrete all the time in programming. And, although i have calculated beam sizes, which uses calculus, i never needed to use calculus, because the formulas were already derived.
The reason they teach calculus is so that all the children do not see "modern mathematics" for the fraud it is.
The assumption that you can always add 1 to a number, i believe is false.
i.e. if you have 3 apples, the number line goes from 0 to 3. not 0 to ∞.
Further, "modern mathematics" uses linear coordinate systems although no such thing exists in nature. So, when trying to use "modern mathematics" for physics, for measuring the real world, it is woefully inadequate.
In the future mathematics.
Or, basically, in "modern mathematics"
1 = -1
It has been shown and proven.
So, we either accept this apparent contradiction, or we fix the mathematics.
Hard words dear @vimukthi.
Philosophy is thought. Thought is Humanity.
Trying to tabulate the thoughts in a mathematical formula would be a pretty daring adventure.
Someone once demonstrated the nonexistence of God through the use of mathematical formulas. This raised great controversy.
It is true that the sciences are also the product of human thought. Then we could hold the hypothesis that sciences are the derivation of a deep philosophy.
What do you think about it?
All best, Piotr

I think the mistake is in talking about "philosophy" and "science" as if it were something in itself. There are some reliable philosophers, and others who don't, there are also some reliable scientists, like others who don't.
Also, science is the daughter of philosophy. Without philosophy, there is no science.
On the other hand, mathematics is more related to philosophy than to anything else. The first man to describe himself as a "philosopher" was also the first mathematician in (west) history; Pythagoras. The fact that numbers are ideas does not help modern science either, which is fundamentally materialistic.
The "science", the "maths", the "philosophy", are all neutral. But the scientists, the mathematicians, and the philosophers, no. If we applied modern physicalism and the mathematical reductionism of modern science to all things, we would have a communist society, where the human being is simply reduced to a number, and evaluated by the material wealth that he can make.
Personally, I would not trust either philosophers or scientists, I only rely on logic and reason, which depend on no one but my own understanding.
