Free CoWorking Places In Lisbon

in #digitalnomad6 years ago (edited)

The biggest challenges for us is finding a decent apartment so Mike and I can work from home during our For 91 Days. But often we can only afford a smaller place and due to Airbnb Hosts maximizing profits, the places for two people would barely have an office or two desks. So many times we're working from coffee shops. Which is ok but it can also be very annoying (some owners are not too keen either to have use use their cafe as our "office", which is understandable).

I wish we would have taken pictures of all the places we worked from, it would be such an interesting collection - some are truly crazy like sitting in a jungle in Sri Lanka working with a dongle connection. In the recent years though we noticed the rise of Coworking places which in theory are incredible but we've looked into couple of them. The biggest turn off are the working hours ... em 9-6 ? What? I mean I'm a Digital Nomad and I might have clients all over in different time zones. Also many of them seem extremely profit hungry. 15 Euros for a garden table sitting on a bench in a freezing cold room per day? No thank you! We did have luck with some though but ...

Public Libraries are the Digital Nomad's friend - giving you a quiet place to work from almost in every bigger city, almost around the world. For free! We've played with the thought of working form libraries before but we thought it might be too trouble some, to get a card BUT as we learned many libraries have open wifi, available to everyone in the building.

So now after 7 years on the road we finally found our favorites spots to work from!!!!

If you're in Lisbon check out Municipal Library of St. Lazarus (pictured above and it's beautiful) or Biblioteca Camões which is not less pretty.

Well, from now on we will keep the libraries of the world in mind! Do you work out of Libraries? Which is your favorite one?

I feel a sense of community is arguably the biggest selling point of these co-working spaces. But how can they offer a true sense of community if they are so pricey. I feel a free public library would definitely make for better co-working, in the truest sense. You'll encounter people from all walks of life, speaking different languages. And imagine working in some of the most gorgeous public libraries! I would love that! :)

BUT ... you can't speak too loudly and for some reason our shoes are SOOO squeaky ... we walk in and everyone stares at us. Happens every single time.

I used cafes when I was traveling and working in Europe. I haven't even thought about public libraries!

That's how we feel like - They're actually perfect!

@for91days, @clowncursed In this world, one may not expand should stir, and will not patiently close. @clowncursed

I like that you share how you actually work and a collection of all the coworking spaces and libraries would be awesome! Maybe you can start collecting now and share it in Steemit, that would be a unique travel post.

Here in Metro Manila there are already coworking spaces but they charge a lot. And we don't have nice public libraries. Most people work in coffee shops. Some really allow students and workers there. Just wanna share this in case you get to the Philippines :)

We kind of start disliking coworking places because of that. There is a need for us travelers to work and I feel some people take advantage of that. And I LOVE the idea of Cafes inviting workers and students - we visited a place like that in Saigon. Great atmosphere and they totally understand what travelers are looking for.

Valencia, Spain is becoming a hot shot for Digital Nomads and we would love to open a space, fairly priced and providing the services and atmosphere to our guests we were always urging to find in places when we were traveling ourselves. And not just a plain money grabbing thing. It would be a good place to hang some of my travel photos once in a while / providing a place for other photographers and artists as well.

And Saigon has good coffee too (with the condensed milk)! I don't drink a lot of coffee but their coffee made me visit coffee shops there.

And I support you in your plan to build that space in Valencia. You would be the best person (should I say team coz you're two) to build such place because you know very well what digital nomads need.I hope that I'd be a full time traveler by then and I'll be one of your customers :D

Let's see how Steemit is treating us, we would love to use the profits we make here to fund fair projects like that - providing a place for others. Thank you so much for your supporting and warm words. Yes we're two but having found so many great people like you on Steemit we feel the support of the community.

i use Starbucks sometimes for surfing.
i don't work there, but i see other people that do work there.

We used Starbucks too ... but we try to help small coffee shops and order something every two hours or though.

good to know, its always usefull to have a place like that, for guys like we are)

I wish we had such cool spaces in Munich...

There must be a similar beautiful place in Munich - no old libraries there?

naaaah, I was just looking today, just an 'ordinary' , but very modern library and hardly any cafes with good WLAN where one could easily work- at least not in my neighbourhood and I'm quite close to the centre.
