DESIGN A CHARACTER - Season 9 - Style challenge: Tony DiTerlizzi Style/My Entry 2 Anais The Artichoke Fairy
This is an original character that I designed recently. I want to challenge myself and my patience with details. I prefer working with quick tasks but this one took me longer than expected.
This is my second entry to design a character season 9 under Tony DiTerlizzi style. This is hosted by @w0olf you can check this post for the contest details. Here is my first entry
I am still using the same mobile app Autodesk when I made this character. I find Tony DiTerlizzi quite inspiring. I chose his fairy characters as my reference for this entry I named Anais. Tony D can create something sublime out of an ordinary reference like a blueberry. On my entry I want to do just that. My inspiration is the vegetable artichoke.
You may see the process gif below but I have to warn you it's short and fast and you may find it dizzying.
Well, I started drawing the shape of an artichoke using the brush : pencil. Tony D likes his fairies child like with cute innocent but sometimes intriguing faces. Their bodies often smaller or slender compared to their head. That's basically what Anais looks like.
I don't want to give up yet being someone who prefers quick drawings. Tony D fantasy art is way too tedious for me but I challenged myself to spend more time and patience creating those fine pencil strokes. After the head I immediately detailed the face. The eyes I want them to appear cute yet sinister and used bright pink as the blush.
The breast plate is also time consuming and difficult. I am going for a rusty, beaten copper finish that is segmented. This is my first time doing such an ambitious task.
The wings and dress. I want them to appear light and thin. Also took quite a while to achieve the look. The golden boots are too small to see the details but they also required a lot of time.
Final touches on the head. I am not happy with what I had and decided to define the creases and folds similar to that of a cabbage. Deciding on the shade of green took forever.
I hope you like it.
