My Logo Suggestion for DecentMemes

Hello all, @lemony-cricket here, and I've designed a logo! I hope it's good!

This is an entry into a contest. I have no affilliation with or stake in DecentMemes, and I am not being compensated for this article, other than any potential winnings from the contest. I am not affiliated with, endorsing, or denouncing DecentMemes. I've tried it once. I might try it again. I'm seriously just entering a contest, folks.

What?! What's "decent memes"?

DecentMemes is a manually-curated meme generation and hosting service created and operated jointly by @netuoso and @acidyo.

Seriously? You are advocating cluttering Steemit and wasting rewards on memes?

Firstly, I'm not advocating anything. I am entering a contest.

Clutter and waste is subjective. Personally, I choose to segregate my experimentation with meme content onto a separate account, and I do not plan to spend a significant amount of my main account's voting power on meme content. However, I believe it is short-sighted to dismiss meme or other short-form content based on those qualifications alone.

One of the biggest problems with memes on this platform is that they are easily copied from other sources and it is hard to crack down on this when content is automatically curated. DecentMemes solves this problem through manual curation with a possible future expansion into hybrid automated curation (similar perhaps to how @qurator works). Curators for DecentMemes search through submissions for unique, quality content, and don't upvote obvious ripoffs or low-effort content.

All memes are low-effort content, @lemony-cricket.

That's categorically false. @geekpowered, for one, pours his very soul into each one he makes (though they're mostly GIFs as well, so that involves a bit more effort than your standard image macro).

Look; honestly... let's face it. Memes are here to stay, until they're not. Let's at least try and incentivise making them decent. (See what I did there?)

So explain this logo of yours. Looks sort of boring.

Hey! I tried my best. I didn't go to school for graphics design or anything.

The name of the site is actually a play on words. The memes are supposed to be decent, yes, but "decent" is also supposed to invoke a connection to "decentralisation", the single most important concept that makes our platform (and blockchain technology in general) the world-changing innovation that it is. While the site and service itself may not be entirely decentralised, the platform it is built on is.

Therefore, I decided to allude to this concept by drawing a network graph as part of the logo. The letters of "DecentMemes" are in monospace font, representing the digital nature of Steem. The letters are very loosely spaced, and the words "decent" and "memes" are divided by a large space. This symbolises our physical separation from each other, large and small-- some of us share nations, some of us share continents, but all of us share the world... and Steem.

The separation between the letters also pays homage to the vapourwave/simpsonswave subculture through its emulation of the full-width text associated with that scene, the most famous probably being variations of the word "AESTHETIC."

Each letter is a node in the network, and each one has at least one route to each other letter. It's not a perfect network, but there is no central point of control for the entire network, and nobody is left out. Most connections are between letters of opposite words.

The two same-word connections were chosen carefully. The first, between the first "e" and "c" in "decent", subliminally nudges the pun to the forefront of the mind (de-cent... ralised). The second separates the word "memes" into "me-mes", a common (and, in itself, memetic) mispronunciation of "meme."

Finally, superimposed on this graph is "DM", the abbreviation for DecentMemes and potentially the favicon which could be used for the site. The font is Impact Condensed, white, with a black outline. This is the font which is most widely used for image macros, so just looking at it invokes a memetic mood. 🍋

How to get an upvote from me today: Do you like my logo? Hate it? Agree that meme content is not only inevitable, but at least mostly tolerable? Think I'm a traitorous shill selling out the platform? All comments are welcome.
