Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 12/12/18> Glad that is behind me now… and I did get a nap and learned something.

in #dailydose5 years ago (edited)

Well I got...

Well I got the 8 hours of CEU’s I needed for 2018 and it was pretty much like I expected. The morning session was boring as hell as the instructor went over basic rules and regulations. That was a total waste of time, 3 hours to be exact, the bad part was I had consumed my normal amount of coffee by the time I arrived there so the caffeine kept me awake.

After lunch though...

After lunch though it was a different story; one thing I will give them credit for is that they do provide a great lunch. On the menu was steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and rolls with butter. They also had a variety of veggies but none of those ended up on my plate. They also had pumpkin cheese cake and some other cake with three layers of different flavors and whipped cream on top of the vanilla icing.

Since I didn't...

Since I didn’t take any veggies I went ahead and got one of each of the desserts. That right there was plenty enough to get the caffeine negated so after lunch I did get a two hour nap in while the instructor bored more people than just me to sleep.

The last two...

The last two hours of the day though was on something that did keep my interest. The instructor went over that CAD drawing program that I am still learning so I did pick up a couple pointers on that so the day was actually better than I expected.

The bad part...

The bad part was right after the class I had to head to Austin and the 5:00 PM rush hour traffic getting out of Houston was a mess, the normal 2 ½ hour drive ended up taking an extra hour much like I thought it might. So I was worn out and hungry by the time I made it to Austin. Thank the Lord for pizza delivery, thank the Lord.

Today I have...

Today I have an appointment with a country club and it is an early AM meeting so I won’t drag this on very long. I have a podcast / youtube video playing as I am writing this and something very interesting was just said on it and I think the thought this guy just touched on may have some merit to it; it at least bears some looking into and it has to do with cancer.

He made mention...

He made mention that it seems like cancer is a whole lot more prevalent in the baby boomer generation, of which I am a part of, than in previous generations. He said that it might very well be that the reason is we grew up in an era where it was very common for our parents to have our tonsils and adenoids removed when we were kids. I really have never known what those “organs” were used for, in fact I vaguely remember the doctor saying that those really served no purpose so removing them wouldn’t cause any harm.

This guy thinks...

This guy thinks that those, the tonsils and adenoids, are actually part of our immune defense system and by having them removed we have weakened our immune systems. I could see how that might very well be true, just because I believe that we were created by a creator and I believe that creator knew what he was doing.

Just because we hadn’t figured out the purpose of those didn’t mean they didn’t have a purpose. Like I said, this is the first I have heard of it but I think it is at least worth further investigation.

Have any of...

Have any of you heard that angle yet on tonsils and adenoids? So far we never have looked at having those removed from our children but they haven’t had any issues that might prompt the pediatrician to suggest it. Do they (doctors) still push having them removed? I don’t know the answer to those questions so I hope some of you can clue me in.

That is it for this edition of the Daily Dose, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Oh yes it was common practice here as well, frequent tonsillitis was a good excuse to remove the tonsils. I remember a friend in primary school missing an entire term because she was hospitalised with va bad kidney infection, her Mom said the specialist believed it was because her tonsils were removed, they help our body fight the bad guys. I had mine removed as an adult and that's when I suddenly developed all kinds of allergies, hayfever is the pits! So I have to take a mild antihistamine when the seasons change otherwise I sneeze my lungs out!
You made me laugh with the story of your day's training, all that dessert and no veggies!

The way I looked at it was that lunch was costing me $195.00 so I had to try and get my money's worth and since the main course wasn't all you could eat I had to try and make up some ground with what was.

You are so funny Mr Papper ;)

That was my serious side Lizelle, I wasn't trying to be funny. :)

I had to get 'professional certification' hours in too. In the mechanic world it was pretty easy, a manufacturers cert class would work just fine and I always took them when available.

I had a chemical cert for a few years. Those could be beyond brutal, the biggest trick was the appearance of staying awake. It was in my best interest to have digested all that information prior to the annual class, and that made for boring classes. Until I fell in with the instructors. I may or may not have gotten a couple of annual certs in a bar the night before the class.

I don't believe I've ever heard the tonsils and adenoids theory, but I've still got all my original equipment. My Dad had a treatment for tonsillitis that involved gargling with salt water and spraying with Merthiolate that was so brutal I had to be not even remotely able to swallow before I reported a problem. So I didn't report much and there was never any reason for the doc to go get my stuff. I believe like many childhood conditions we build our own immunity over time, and I've never had much problem with it.

I was jealous of classmates that got a few days off from school and the ice cream. I still love me some ice cream. Which brings me to the desert/veggies discussion. I like veggies just fine (some of them) so I take them on a regular basis. But my father had another theory on life that I fully subscribe to. When in doubt, eat the desert first. Better to leave some veggies behind than pie or cake or ice cream. That one made a lot more sense to me than the tonsillitis treatment.

Well, sir. I've had my daily dose, I believe I'll move my tonsils over to the desert section. Thanks.

This was the first time in since they started this CEU class that I attended as an attendee rather than a vendor so for the 18 years or so I got my hours just for being in the building in previous years without ever having to set foot inside the lecture hall.
Plus we were allowed to pack up are display booths and leave after the last break of the day which was at 2:30 in the afternoon. The organizers make such a big deal about every attendee being there the full 8 hours of class time and give the vendors a pass on it all since they make good money off the vendors.
I was half tempted at 2:30 to go see if they would give me my little certificate and let me go on my way but I knew they wouldn't. The more you pay the more privileges you get I guess.
I would have liked to see the look and the response I would have gotten but since the last portion of the day was actually something I was interested in I didn't do it and stayed without rocking the boat.
I would have kept my mouth shut too if my parents had the treatment your father did for the sore throat and tonsillitis.
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your take on today's subjects, very much appreciated, hope the dessert section is refilled for you.

I suspect myself having one of the symptoms for tonsillitis, it was tough but then the pain went away after a week or two, i might need to remove tonsil stones instead, need some checkup soon

I have never heard of tonsil stones, do you mean the actual tonsils?

i read about it, its like calcium stuff that are from the back of your throat, they are in the tonsils and can cause issues like bad breath, discomfort, etc.

I can honestly say that is a new one for me, I had never heard of them before. Thanks for letting me know, I am sure I am not the only one who didn't know that.

Howdy sir sultnpapper! I haven't heard about the tonsils being part of the immune system but I wouldn't doubt it at all. I bet you'll get around to researching that sometime though. Glad you got something out of the meeting you had to go to!

Up until the other day I hadn't heard that about tonsils so when I get some time I will look into that and see what I can come up with.
I am glad I got something out of that meeting to besides 8 hours credit and a good lunch, that information will come in handy as I continue to try and learn that program, right now I am still using my old program to draw with.

It's a miracle to get some useful information from those types of meetings. What's to keep someone from just showing up for lunch and staying for the afternoon part, you have to register in the morning?

Oh yes, you have to sign in and sign out of every class and at the end when you get your certificate showing you completed the 8 hours. So that wouldn't fly at this event.
