[vlog #5] Cycling Day and DIY Bike Hack - Have a Scratch-Free Bicycle

in #cycling6 years ago (edited)

Hooray Readers! Bringing yet another fun and useful video to the community- Mr.P on Video!

Riding a bicycle is not only about a faster form of transportation or a way to enjoy nature while exercising, it can be a hobby that will kick your creativity in so many ways. You can film your rides, practice new tricks, learn mechanics or work on simple DIY projects that will make your two wheeled look more epic than ever.

I've already showed you how to change a bicycle tyre and also gave some tips on important stuff you can carry on your rides to make it safer and more enjoyable.

On this video, I'd like to bring a quick DIY hack that will make your bicycle look badass and protected against the chain movements.

What does the hack do? If you have a rear derailleur you may have noticed that the chain bounces up and down when you are on uneven roads or attacking a trail, it's normal. However, those bounces sometimes will cause dents on your bicycle frame, which will not only damage the rear tube, but will also decrease your bicycle value if you decide to sell one day.

After watching this video you'll be able to quickly make a chainstay protector using free recycled materials. So call the kids and hands on work!

Fun Bicycle Hack - Making Your Bike Scratch-Free

Material Summary

The materials needed to make our frame protector are the simplest you'll find, make some effort to get them for free, that way contributing for a cleaner Earth.

  • Old Tyre Tube - You can find this easily on tyre repair shops, opt for a bicycle tube or motorcycle tube as they are thinner.
  • Glue - If you decide to glue the tips in place, it's completely optional.
  • Scissor - To cut the tips once you fix the strip in place.

How to Summary

  • Cut a strip from the old tube of around 2 fingers in length.
  • Wrap it around the rear tube (the one between the chain)
  • Cut excess.
  • Taaadam, done.

Cost

If you ask for a trashed tyre tube they'll for sure give you, so the cost will be ZERO. By using recycled materials you'll be helping the Earth and making your bicycle more durable, it's a win-win fun little hack.

End Result

It should look like this.

Hooray @jefriana, thanks for dropping a message!

I've seen bicycle tubes recycled for a lot of uses but I've never seen that one before. Very cool! Might have to try that on my mountain bike... Thanks for the tip!

Isn't it great? We can always make use of old materials, if you really do link a photo here, it'll be cool to see.

Thanks for the message

Ah, that's super clever!!! I like that idea. Resourcefulness is a necessary survival skill!

Isn't it great? an old tube will possibly never degrade in nature, we can just use and use it again. And no duct tape this time!
