CURIOUS FACTS CONTEST #6: 3 Facts you should know about windows operating system
There are many other operating systems out there like Linux, but windows operating system still has a large share of the computer industry. Many people still make use of one version of windows or the other. So wouldnt it be nice if you a learn a fact or two about this enduring product? As a matter of fact, i want to make it clear that this post is my entry for CURIOUS FACTS CONTEST #6 powered by @river-island . So lets start with the first fact.
FACT NO 1: In windows, you cannot name a folder CON. Here is why.
You cannot create a folder named CON(all in uppercase) in windows. The reason is that CON is one of the reserved words used by the Operating System. There are still others like PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.
These reserved keywords are used by the Operating System to perform some tasks.. For examples, the Operating system uses these words to create folders from time to time and store data in them for tasks related to printing and other functions. So if Windows allowed you to create folders with these same keywords, it will create resource conflict and ambiguity; thereby disrupting the smooth running of the system.
This rule has a very long history dating back to when Microsoft introduced DOS. Since then, no change has been made to this naming convention and it remains to be seen if any would ever be made.
FACT NO 2: the Recycle bin icon in Windows changes based on content!
I laughed when i observed this fact about the Recycle bin but its true. If the the Recycle Bin is empty, the icon changes to an empty glass containing a recycle bin tag. This is because there is no data in the Recycle bin.
But When there is a data in your Recycle bin the Empty Glass Icon will automatically get changed . And it becomes Filled Glass Icon.
Check it by yourself. Empty the Recycle bin and look at the icon. Now send something into the bin, the icon changes automatically.
FACT NO 3: You can turn Windows upside down with this trick
Sometime we want to show others that we are not minnows when it comes to using our computer. so we want to show your friend you a now a computer geek? Just turn windows left, right or up side down with this hidden key combination.
To turn the screen to the right, press Ctrl + Alt + Right Arrow
To turn the screen to the left, press Ctrl + Alt + Left Arrow
To turn the screen upside down, press Ctrl + Alt + down Arrow
To turn the screen to normal position, press Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow.
Thank you for participating in Curious Facts Contes #6
Great entry! 😊 Although I am a Mac user I would definitely try the trick turning upside down the screen of my husband’s PC which works with Windows.😂
