'I'm sorry sir, but we're all out of Happiness.'
The words hung in the air between us like a dark cloud. I smiled through the haze.
'Not to worry,' I said, still floating on the last dose.

A Bottle Full of Happiness by @madals is such a strong short story, using a dystopian future and happiness as a drug to explain the problems of the pursuit of happiness.

Sediment dusts
fall from a precipice that is chipped.
I witness
the slow suicidal act on the ceiling of my room
that fills the void of his skin
during each morning.

Truhanas Escamas by @miguelmederico is a poem that explores the impact of deception.

He razor betook to master their look,
For MEN groom hair on their face,
Fidel’s would it cook hence beard he forsook,
But Dictator’s Dash he’d embrace.

The Dictator's Dash by @quillfire is a poem written to benefit a fellow steemian who lives in Venezuela. I especially appreciate quillfire's play on the idea of a dash as a symbolic "mustache" and also associations with the punctuation.

hate is a relative thing
a degree of disinterest - distance and mistrust
a maddened dog digging holes
searching for what was lost

Listen by @torico is a piece that explores the various meanings of hatred, using strong metaphors that are so emotionally heavy they have a physical weight.

To burst forth from within,
Explosive power wielded,
Only nature as true kin,
Let a man be shielded.

A Moment on the Lips with Lord Byron by @jeffreymartin caught my eye because it's a fun writing exercise- to take a famous poem and write an extension of it.
