Dec 28 -- Steemit Ramble #51 -- Don't You Hate it When You Miss Good Posts?

in #curation8 years ago

I’m starting a new series for 2017. It’s “Things Canadian” and will feature some aspect of Canada that you may or may not know about. I hope you’ll find it as interesting as I’ll enjoy learning more about my country. The first post in the series is here - “What the Heck is a New Years Levee?”

I’m not abandoning the Steemit Ramble. I enjoy doing it as I manually curate around the site. Now that I’m past my really busy time of year, I expect to get back to more regular posting.

I hear the Steemit roadmap is due out in a few days. Looking forward to see what is in store for 2017 on this still young site.

Onward to today’s rambling

Mummification in Ancient Egypt: How Is It Possible To Preserve A Body For Thousands of Years?!

@sirwinchester writes a post about the why and how of the mummification of Egyptian nobility in ancient times. It’s always fascinating how these advanced methods were carried out in times when people didn’t possess the so called advanced knowledge we have today.

Can small and new users still make it on Steem? I dont think so.

I’ve included this post, not because it has quality writing, it doesn’t, but it asks a question that I’m sure many new people to Steemit ask. If they can still succeed on the platform when others are so far ahead of them? The author doesn’t think so, but I think the people who have commented have made it pretty clear the answer is “YES” - if you work at it.

My "Periodic Personal Pantheon" of Steemit Authors

@creatr shares a list of some of his favourite authors here on Steemit and what they write about. Some of the list I’m already familiar with and with those good choices, I know I’m going to be interested in checking out the folks I’m not familiar with.

Book Review: Watership Down - A Tribute to Richard Adams (1920-2016)

I’ve heard of Richard Adams but not actually read any of his work. Unlike @qezzit, Watership Down wasn’t required reading for me when I was in high school. His review here has intrigued me. I think I will add it to my ‘to read’ list.

I'm Phoenix. I'm an artist and writer, and a survivor of childhood abuse.

A newer member of Steemit, @matrjoschka writes about his experiences as a child and the multiple abuses he suffered from multiple abusers. It takes incredible courage for a survivor to speak out about their experiences. Good for you @matrjoschka and welcome to Steemit. You seem to have found a safe space here.

New Year's Resolution, or Reset? How to Succeed in the Changes You Want!

New Years is the traditional time to set resolutions, to begin anew to make changes in our lives. It’s also a time to find our resolutions rarely last very long and we set the idea aside until the next year. @krnel writes about ideas to reset our current behaviour rather than trying to completely change cold turkey. Some interesting ideas and well worth exploring.

Thank You For Following My Blog ! My Top Steemit Goals For 2017 ! Searching For More Followers !

@karenmckersie writes about her aspirations for her activity on Steemit in 2017. I think pretty much all of us should join her on that quest. It will be good for the platform and ourselves.

The place of a thousand souls....

@homeartpictures shares some sobering pictures of Theresienstadt, a WW2 extermination camp the Germans built. In these uncertain times, we need to remember the horrors of the past and be vigilant they are not repeated.

HOW NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS STARTED -- AND WHY...

One of my favourite writers on Steemit, @macksby writes about the origins of New Years resolutions and the evolution of the New Years celebrations and all their variations around the world. A very interesting read. Well worth exploring.

Wrap-up on Day 51

Was some interesting reading today. I’m noticing a nice variety of posts on the system which makes it very interesting reading and curating.

Supporting and Upvoting

Let’s not forget folks. I’m sharing these posts not only because I like them. I’d really like to see them get support and upvoting. I know some of the posts have done okay by the time I post my ramble, but some really could use the support and upvoting.

Subscribing to My Posts

In addition to following me on Steemit, which I really appreciate. If you want to be sure to know about every post, you can subscribe at my other blog. I’ll send you an email when I post.

thank you for your kind words and hope you find many great finds to come :)

and to you as well @macksby hope you have a blast

Thank you for featuring my post, awesome!

Nice links , how do you spend your time in steemit btw, do you read a lot and if so how do you cope , commenting , reading , keeping up in general ,

I'm at a PC and can't get around to reading all I would like , either because of distractions , or just more information or curiosity. On the other hand I can't imagine walking with a phone and just scrolling for days , it's too much computer for me as it is :D .

I spend a lot of time reading on Steemit, but it is on my laptop. I know I likely miss some good posts but I get what I can. It is not uncommon for me to look at more than 50 posts in a day. Most will get read but if they don't hold my attention, then I move on. When they hold my attention and I feel the post spoke something to me, then I have a candidate for the Steemit Ramble.

I see you're fairly new, just do what you can and be persistent. You'll grow.

Well thank you very much , I have to say Steem is a interesting place , looks like a quality place , everyone is sharing and there is actual conversations going on here. I have learned a lot from my short time here about social media and community in general just from the reward structure , even if the point is a bit skewed it's a good idea. As far as i know there are a lot of "fights" and since everyone is trying to get a piece , we have bots and such just because people can't keep up but would like to have rewards.

For me it's just a nice place to hang out , I can't go through everything I would like , but its interesting to see so much different perspectives and actual sharing of ideas.

I'm looking forward to your Canada posts. Are you going to your local Levee on New Year's Day? Our family tradition is to eat black-eyed peas and that's about it, lol.

Thank you @haphazard-hstead and yes I will most definitely be attending the local Levee. It is hosted by the local Legion branch and I am its President. We've invited the Mayor and council to attend and take part in greeting as people arrive.

Haha -- As President, I guess you will be there! ; )
Here's to a great turnout for your Levee!
