Gwanghee Gate and the Life of People

At this time, I‘d like to introduce an one of the Gate of the Seoul Wall.
There are all 8 gates along the wall, 4 grand gates and 4 small gates.
What I want to introduce to you is an one of small gates. Each gates has it’s own names according to Confucian philosophy.

Gwanghee is the name of that gate.

Gwanghee means that as sunshine spreading
the virtue of the King spreads.

Gwanghee gate was not far from the Dongdaemoon. I already had posted relating to the Dongdaemoon.

https://steemit.com/culture/@slowwalker/east-gate-of-seoul-flurish-perfect-virtue-gate

Each gate had it’s specific role and function. Function of the Gwanghee was a route for the marching ceremony of the funeral. The body could come out only from designatesd gate. And Gwanghee gate was one of that gates.
It seems that it is not coincidence that near the Gwanghee gate was one of the poorest area in Seoul.

Nowadays scenery around the gate seems to be nothing special for tourists. But if you know the history of this gate, the scenery will come to your heart with another meaning.

I followed the wall from Dongdaemoon gate. No wall is left between the Dongdaemoon and the Gwanghee gate. Only I could find the trace of wall.

Along the trace of the wall finally I got to the Gwanghee gate. I could see the one side of the gate where the wall was removed for traffic.

I walked into the gate there and took the photos on the ceiling

Like Dongdaemoon, there yellow and blue dragons were drawn. It was very clear and well preserved.

On the way out of seeing the gate, I could see an old woman pulling the cart. It was the wasted paper. She seemed to sell the papers to the recycle center.

And I could look at the old people sitting by the gate. Maybe she need to clean the road for her subsidies.

It has been not changed for several years that in the vicinity of this village was the poorest area in Seoul.

Life seems blessing to someone, but curse to others.

Amazing view from gates and other place @slowwalker , thanks for sharing this photography

Gwanghee Gate seems like the people's gate, @slowalker. It's in the poorest section of Seoul and is used for funeral processions.

Anyone living near a wall and especially near a gate is going to have constant disruption. The wealthy are not going to build their homes there.

In a way this gate is a symbol of the lot of the poor. The only way out of their poverty was a funeral and ironically, they probably couldn't afford a funeral procession.

The painting on the ceiling of the gate house is exquisite, @slowwalker, and you managed to capture its vibrant colours. It is in the style of other ceilings in gate houses, along with the ever-present dragons.

This well-preserved art contrasted with the ruin of the wall which had been all but obliterated in places and actually cut through to make a lane for traffic!

Your theme of blessing and curses is very evident in this photo essay today, my friend.
