Hypebeasts Are Clamoring For "Jesus Shoes" Filled With Holy Water

in #culture5 years ago (edited)

Probably most of y'all have already read about this since people on Steemit are so trendy but for those who haven't this is an interesting phenomenon.

A design company in Brooklyn created a custom shoe by buying stock Nike Air Max 97's and turning them into their own creation.

The intent of the shoes is to poke fun at Collabs, which are collaborations between companies.

For instance, Arizona Ice Tea Company teamed up with Addidas and made colorful shoes, here's a few of them:

This Brooklyn company is MSCHF which is a pretty clever name If we're supposed to pronounce it "mischief."

Anyway, I have no idea what's wrong with collabs and why they want to make fun of them but they decided to come up with their own collab...with Jesus Christ...which is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard of.

Why they didn't choose an earthly company like Arizona Ice Tea did was not explained.

People get to say they're walking on water

The guy heading up the project is Jewish so he didn't know anything about Jesus except that he walked on water. So they decided to fill the soles of the Nike's with actual water from the Jordan River.

They had to add blue coloring because the Jordan River isn't blue, it's brown or green, depending on different factors. But brown might be ugly so they made it blue. How we know it's actually water from the Jordan River is not known.

But the effect is nice:

Don't you think? They're also scented with Frankincense and have a cross on the laces:

The water has supposedly been blessed by a priest so they claim that the water in the shoes is Holy Water. lol.

The deal with Hypebeasts

Hypebeasts are simply anyone going after the latest trends and fashion statements in clothing or shoes. And they snapped these shoes up instantly at about $1,400. They sold out in less than 60 seconds!

But the kicker is that buyers are reselling them on reseller sites for $4,000! And they're selling as fast as they put them up.

Which means there are people out there with more money than brains. At least that's my explanation for this thing.

It IS a nice looking show though, don't you think?

And if all that isn't enough, the shoebox has a classic painting of an angel(which I couldn't find an image of) and comes sealed with the official seal of the Vatican! So there ya go, a good investment don't you think? Yeah right.

Maybe if they only made 200 of them but I think they're still making some each week. If you want a pair you can try to pick them up here on this stockx.com page.

MSCHF must be brilliant marketers or else they're just lucky. Or perhaps a bit of both. There's no way they knew the shoes were going to be this wildly popular.

If any of you out there are Hypebeasts it would be great to get your opinion!

And for the Faithful, is this sacrilegious or honorable? The actual shoes and presentation don't seem to be designed to mock.

Thanks for reading folks, God bless you all!

PS- Hey I'm sure everyone knows about the new Vegan Impossible Whopper from Burger King. It's been a huge success!

But a Vegan in Florida is suing Burger King for false advertising because they claim the burger is 100% meat-free but they grill it on the same grill as the meat burgers.

He says he suffered monetary damages in the amount that he spent for the burger so he's suing for the cost of that burger! lol. The cheapest lawyer I know has a retainer fee of $500.

Settle for 10 bucks? lol.

I wonder what Burger King will do with this? And @lenasveganliving does he have a good case? He claims there were no signs indicating that the vegan burger would be cooked on the same grill as the meat burgers.

These vegan products are gaining tremendous popularity though. McDonalds is coming out with a vegan Big Mac and Pizza Hut is offering more and more vegan options.

@dandays says “then they should be free” when I told him to listen and read him a portion of this post about “the Jesus Christ Nike collab”. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Also, as for the vegan “meats”, what in the heck is it anyway?! As you know we are vegan(ish) so definitely no meat of any kind (fish doesn’t count) but the hype on all of these “beyond meats” has me suspicious. We stick to an easy “all Whole Foods diet” so don’t need to worry too much about that for us personally. However, I’m not sure our government/powers that be would push something so hard without another agenda. I’d think twice before eating all of this beyond meat that clearly super trendy right now. Just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

Howdy puravidaville! lol..I agree that the shoes should be free. But then they wouldn't be highly sought after by the Hypebeasts. ha..

As far as the Impossible Burger, it's basically a soy burger. Here's the ingredients:

Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Potato Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Zinc Gluconate, Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.

Okay, a soy burger with a bunch of vitamins added. Researchers say the big companies are pushing these and similar products and that they're highly processed and totally GMO. I don't even think they allow any GMO foods in Europe.
So I completely agree with you!

Plus they get away with the “natural flavorings” caveat. So processed, it can’t be good for you. Then again, it’s become more of a struggle to find ANYTHING that isn’t processed in the U.S. Europe’s food is much cleaner, in fact that was one of the main things that impressed upon touching down here. The same Heinz ketchup has far less chemicals than the U.S. version. They are poisoning us @janton! Poisoning us (I scream). 🤡

I heard something just the other day about some privately funded company called NASA, have you heard of them? They said they sent American astronauts to the moon—“humans.” They’ll believe anything they’re told.

They’ve also told us that news is “news”… come to think of it, did they drop the man on the moon’ info via the news? 🤔

I agree, it's very frustrating because they know so many of us want cleaner, less processed foods. Yeah, what does "natural flavorings" usually mean?

🤷🏼‍♀️

I once stepped in chewing gum that had been spat out on the ground...I wonder who I could say that collab was with: Chewing gum company? City Council? Chewing gum spitter? The possibilities are endless.

lol..great point sir galenkp. I know, it's insane really but apparently brilliant marketing. Or great luck.

Crazy what people will pay for. There's a blogger on another site, well usually you can find him for the most part debating on the religious blogs, that often quotes that anybody can walk on water...you just have to freeze it first.

lol..well that statement is true, very clever. I think people are generally crazy don't you?

I think people have become indifferent, lacking the kind of compassion this country once had. There's still a lot of people who care but I think we've morphed more into more of a "me" society. Seems like people use to distinguish a cause of concern for the mentally handicapped but somehow those people get lost into the mix of people whom people want to blame them for their lack of success in life. Even at that though even the most basic educated use to be able to get a good job and thrive in this country, it wasn't until people started demanding the best of everything at the lowest possible price that labeling everybody in between as losers became excusable. I think it takes a whole lot of crazy to think that way towards those who came out the losers for their convenience.

Howdy today sunlit7! I agree, there seems to be a hardening of the hearts of more and more people. So many of the youth today expect everything handed to them and they actually believe they are entitled to everything without having to sacrifice and work for it. I don't know where that comes from but it sure ain't healthy!

Oh man you kill me... This is epic... !!

Ain't that crazy sir ganjafarmer? lol. Hey are you a Hypebeast?

Wow.. just wow. The things people come up with and the people that will actually spend that kind of money. I sometimes wish I could think of some sort of 'scam' like that. I'm too honest for my own good. LOL

Howdy today tryskele! I agree, after we see these things we wish we would have thought of it but we don't think in these goofy ways! I mean, who would have thought this would be crazy popular?

NIKE will never be on my feet. And for many more reasons than just Kolon Keperprick. Their support of the Loony Leftists and the pulling and trashing of the american flag shoes. The constant sponsorship of Felons and Fools in sports. Etc etc.....

They were a class act 20 yrs ago with real sponsorships like Micheal Jordan. Even if they use communist chinese slave labor in sub human sweatshops..... DuckDuckGo.com search it....

Don't bother to F̶̷O̶̷N̶̷D̶̷L̶̷E̶̷ Google Yourself. Those search results have been altered, censored, bought and paid for by NIKE.

And search (Ddg.com) for a few Memes like these.

I think it's pretty entertaining that Kaepernick failed to get picked up after that workout session and now he's talking about doing another one but I don't think any team wants the headaches. I think he just wants a platform for his cause. Great memes!

so you'd be fine with the shoes if they'd used Aisics or anyone besides Nike?

I think the shoes were a hoot. Yes i think they were a great looking shoe, and yes it was to mock religion and profit from peoples stupidity.

But they are nothing that I would ever spend my hard fought for dollars on. I buy the china sweat shop $10 wally world shoes.

lol! I guess I don't have to ask if you are a Hypebeast sir krazzytrukker! lol. You can actually buy shoes for $10??

Wally World. Should be called China Mart.... Yes. And Cheap Sunglasses too.....

lol..how old are those guys anyway? I try to avoid buying China products but it's pretty hard to do!

My Guess would be older than dirt, but younger than rocks.....?

lol! I think so, at least 50 years because I remember them since I was in HS.

I can already see my religious friends and relatives in a huff and a puff hahaha
I does look good though.... the price not so much ;p

Howdy kaerpediem! So you think this will be very offensive to them? I think it is on the line but not openly offensive or mocking. So I guess it could be taken either way. If these were $50 instead of $4,000 would you buy them?

Howdy shuvo35, thanks for reading and commenting!

This is very interesting but honestly people are just weird sometimes. I must honestly say I prefer animals hahaha. I enjoyed reading your post. How are things in Texas. If we watch movies or series the people from Texas always seem so friendly.

Howdy today anneke! Yes, people are very weird but I find them entertaining too. lol. Texas is full of very friendly people at least in the rural areas.

Unfortunately the state is changing because we have over 1,000 people moving here each day, mostly from California and New York and they basically don't like the Texas culture so the culture is changing from down to earth with Godly values to more socialist and liberal thinking.

But away from the major cities, yes the people are loving, kind, caring and wonderful.

Isn't it just sad how people can just destroy and change and judge. I do not understand them always but I prefer to concentrate on the many angels that are still here. The good ones.

That is so true and so sad because I'm sure the country is full of wonderful people who deserve so much better!

I think they should be sued and thoroughly excoriated on social media for saying that brown water is too ugly for their almost "all-white" shoes! That right there is a racist statement if I ever heard one! ;)
