💸 IMF Managing Director LaGarde says Bitcoin/Ethereum could give traditional currencies a run for their money 💸 - Says BTC/ETH may be added to IMF SDR fund - Take THAT Jamie Dimon!
During the 20th anniversary of the independence of Bank of England, Christine Lagarde, IMF’s Managing Director, has said that cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum could give traditional currencies a run for their money.
The former French minister of Finance further said that cryptocurrencies “may one day be easier and safer than obtaining paper bills, especially in remote regions,” and they “could actually become more stable,” than fiat currencies.
She also said that cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum could possibly be added to the IMF operated fund called Special Drawing Right (SDR) which handles a basket of currencies.The article states, however, that these SDR remarks were off-script, and that the prepared speech states only that IMF was “considering a role for a digital version of the SDR.”
Regardless, this statement by the managing director of the IMF is great news for cryptocurrencies as it solidifies it's reputation and image as a serious investment. It is in stark contrast to demeaning remarks made by, for example, Jamie Dillon recently.
