DDoS - The Poor Man's Financial WMD

Anyone can buy a DDoS bot for a measly sum of money (~$10).

If the customer is a total Techno Noob, in order to deploy the DDoS bot against a major website will cost at least another $400-$500 in today's Cyber Terrorist market.

Big Corporations can easily lose millions in revenue as the result of just a couple hours of downtime.

It's not uncommon for such entities to willingly pay >$5,000/month for outsourced DDoS protection.

Unfortunately, that expensive protection - the protection that was supposed to ease executives' minds - may prove utterly worthless in the end.

Why?

Today's major DDoS protection services (e.g., Cloudflare, Incapsula, Abor, F5, etc.) are centralized, already overburdened, ill-equipped to scale, and most importantly, represent a single point of failure - a high pay-off, low risk target for malicious hackers.

If it [the centralized DDoS protection service] gets hacked - let's say, by a sophisticated attacker - or simply any average hacker that's aided by a disgruntled employee, all its customers have been compromised and vulnerable to further attacks on their follow on sites.

Gladius - DDoS Protection Trailblazer for the Masses

Gladius aims to revolutionize the DDoS Protection space.

Contrary to current price/product structures within the DDoS protection industry, Gladius customers pay as they go and only for the services they need - a la carte style.

And compared to the present, popular anti-DDoS services, the cost of Gladius services are so inexpensive that websites of any size, or any budget, can afford their high-quality, next generation DDoS protection.

Large sites will save billions of dollars in annual, outsourced DDoS protection services; while small sites can finally be secure enough to grow without the fear of being defenseless and eventually appearing like the next juicy target.

The Gladius team thoroughly researched the whole spectrum of strengths, tools, methods and weaknesses that site owners and DDoS attackers historically possessed, as well as what they have at hand now.

This led to the creation of their Ethereum based DDos Mitigation Protocol and Content Distribution Network (CDN) - networks designed to increase the quality and efficiency of site-to-customer/customer-to-site content delivery. Once considered a luxury in the past, CDN's are steadily becoming a necessity for all websites.

This means that Gladius customers will not only enjoy low-cost, advanced DDoS protection, they also benefit from CDN-turbocharged two-way transmissions of their and their customers' content.

Note:

Enhancing content website distribution channels is crucial for any online entity. It only takes eight seconds of waiting for loading of content to drive customers away.

Fighting Fire with Fire

In the same way that hackers have use decentralized networks to launch a DDoS, Gladius leverages decentralization as a DDoS defense measure - the likes of which no attacker has ever seen before.

Unlike current solutions, Gladius is a decentralized method for DDoS protection and delivers a superior level of security not achievable by present day, centralized DDoS services.

For example, Gladius has no single point of failure - no single place for an attacker to exploit. It has built-in blockchain security, multiple node redundancy and recovery capabilities, and scalability for future network loads.

PoB (Proof of Bandwidth)/PoSt (Proof of Storage)

Anyone can simply buy Gladius tokens (Symbol: GLA) by participating in the pre-sale that started on November 1, 2017 and runs until the end of the year (December 2017).

(For pre-sale instructions, visit: https://gladius.io)

But GLA tokens can also be garnered by serving as a verifying node for finality on the Gladius network.

A node basically performs the same functions of a "miner" in the Bitcoin PoW protocol or a "validator" in the Ethereum PoW/PoS, then PoS protocol - Casper (FFG), then Casper (CBC).

But unlike conventional PoW and PoS consensus mechanisms where rewards are based on winning a race to solve a complex math problem; or putting up a stake for a bet on a block, the Gladius protocol awards GLA tokens commensurate to the node's allocation of bandwidth and amount of storage dedicated to secure the Gladius network.

In other words, rewards are based on - what I like to call - PoB (Proof of Bandwidth) and PoSt (Proof of Storage).

The Gladius client will run on Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating systems.

Conclusion

It's quite clear that the need for protection from increasingly sophisticated threats online is inevitable.

Too many businesses, individual citizens, government officials and even whole nations have ridiculously weak cyber security structures.

Seriously, most of them resemble swiss cheeze, but flimsier.

Cyber Security experts from the civilian sector and every "Alphabet Agency" on Earth predict that the next war will begin (and maybe fought) in cyberspace; most likely, via repeated DDoS attacks.

Current anti-DDoS solutions are grossly inadequate. Gladius is stepping up and paving the way towards the next level of DDoS protection.

Gladius enjoys the unique position of being first to market and taking a solid foothold in the new Anti-DDoS DApps (Decentralized Applications) space - a territory that will surely be innovation-driven and QUITE LUCRATIVE.

Thank you so much for stopping by and commented.

Upvoted your comment and following you now.

Namaste,

Great stuff. Following you now :-)

top work @jaichai. you blindsided the judges with your superior grasp of their product. I think you explained it better than they did and your 1st place trophy is very well deserved win!

I'm very pleased you won this week, showing off your writing skills to full effect. and steem = twice as nice this week. pity the winnings weren't in SBD !!

NAM

@outerground,

I just woke up and having my first coffee.

Literally, this is the first thing I have read today!

Thanks for notifying me that I won!

Namaste,

JaiChai

it's nice when someone wakes you up with Good News. A Very Merry Christmas (1 week early) to you. I am genuinely pleased you won. If it wasn't going to be me, you & @mitneb.. very happy with that. I've had a good week on the trading side of things. I managed to make some Stargate picks over the last few months and am concentrating on plans for 2018.

I can't wait for ATS Authorship to get going ! I want to see your book about life as a daredevil diver (And other stories)

@outerground,

Glad to hear about your success, buddy.

Ditto on some crypto picks.

And sometimes I forget about my past life. Thanks for triggering those Forrest Gumpish times...

Namaste,

JaiChai

it would make a great screenplay.. just the bit you told me about becoming a lab rat parachutist was brilliantly visual and funny..

Keep writing about these great ICOs. Your articles are very dummy friendly. So a lot of people can benefit from them (as long as they discover your posts.)

Anyway I made a small concept posts for SMT project. You might find it interesting: https://steemit.com/steemit/@vimukthi/kidsteem-a-social-media-platform-that-is-100-safe-for-kids-powered-by-smt-with-a-bit-of-inspiration-from-dash-and-dogecoin

@vimukthi,

Salutations! Thanks, buddy.

I affectionately call the tech level almost "Marine Proof". Lol!

Namaste, my friend.

P.S.

Being a Buddhist (albeit, not devout by any means), I need no annual holiday to remind me to be kind.

And of course, no matter how they may differ from mine, I respect the beliefs of others.

So, if applicable, Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Thank you and wish you the same!
Never say no to anything good. If it's fun, Thou shalt Celebrate :-)
I just posted a riddle. It'll be a good brain exercise.

One question would be, how will the platform measure QoS and reliability.... ie apart from bandwidth this will be a criteria ... are they including that as well ?
