COINS I HOLD - Part 3 - Everything else

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

It's hard to know what to buy and what to sell in crypto

Sometimes it's useful to have a benchmark - someone to compare with so you can see how they do it. Today I volunteer myself to be your benchmark.

This is the final part of a three part series which started on the weekend. Sunday's post dealt with my longest-term hodl coins, those I cling to like a bulldog biting the leg of an intruder. Make sure you didn't miss that post.

Yesterday's post dealt with my "Strong Hodl" coins, those I hold firmly, but may let go under the right circumstances. Make sure that you didn't miss that post either.

It was so tempting to skip this post (again - like yesterday) and comment on the market movement today! I have so many "I told you so's" to say! 😂 I'm really thrilled that the market is still behaving just as I have foreseen. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then read my recent posts about a pullback (written at various times over about the last two weeks), you'll see why I'm smiling!

Today's post

This post is about the coins that don't fall into one of the first two hodl categories. That's not to say they are bad coins, why would I want to hold bad coins? These are coins that I do not necessarily intend to hold for such a long time, but it in no way means that I expect a small ROI from them. Indeed, unlike my longer-term hodl categories, I expect these coins to perform sooner! There are some GREAT deals in this post! Let's get down to business.

COINS I HOLD - Part 3 - Everything else

First: one more long-term hodl

Since I wrote Part 1, I have added another coin to my long-term hodl coins. This does not happen often, I hardly ever shift coins more than once a month, more like every three months or so. Most never shift at all. The coin that is now a long-term hodl is:

  • MyWish (WISH) - MyWish was originally created as a "digital Last Will and Testament". It's extremely useful to a crypto investor. Would you trust a lawyer/bank/other executor with the private keys to your crypto in your Will? I wouldn't. MyWish provides a way to get your private keys safely into the right hands. With the growth of crypto I see a very big market for MyWish. But MyWish didn't stop there, they have found that their platform can be used for other things. They now also offer an ICO creation platform, a way to create tokens, wedding contracts, lost key contracts and the possibility to execute deferred payments. They recently participated in Consensus and their news of NEO integration by the end of this month is helping their token gain popularity. (I recommended a "buy" of WISH about a week ago.) They are working on new exchange listings too. I'll be hodling mine like crazy now. It's still very cheap!

Temporary Hodls

Coins worth a hodl, but the length of hodl has yet to be determined.

  1. Substratum (SUB) - This is a good coin. A decentralised internet service run over the blockchain. It negates the need for a VPN. I consider it to have serious potential. Exactly the kind of thing we need to combat over-restrictive regulation attempts.

  2. KuCoin (KCS) - Oh how I love this coin. It has made me more money than any other crypto. Obviously it is the coin of the KuCoin exchange (the best exchange in the crypto world - you can quote me on that). It pays very small dividends on all coins traded on KuCoin.

  3. ZCash (ZEC) - As old as the hills, this privacy crypto was ahead of its time. Now it's just waiting for its time to shine. While more popular privacy coins like Verge and Monero keep messing around and throwing their names away, ZCash waits in the background, biding its time. It's my backup to PIVX (a long-term hodl).

  4. Raiden Network (RDN) - Raiden Network is an off-chain scaling solution for Ethereum ERC-20 tokens. Still a work in progress, it has good potential, but can't be used yet.

  5. Vice Industry Token (VIT) - Become the next Hugh Hefner, be a blockchain porn king! Vice proudly advertises itself with the slogan "get paid to watch porn". It's a catchy title and there is no doubt that the potential market is enormous. Perhaps a bit hard to take them seriously at first (especially with some other embarrassingly awful coins in this market segment), consider that big names like Playboy and Penthouse are already on the Vice train. Their idea is to use paid advertising to pay you to watch porn on their site. In addition to that, they aim to pay the models/performers properly (current sites take most of the earnings for themselves - which isn't right!). It's very cheap. It might just work well!

  6. LOCICoin (LOCI) - Another chronically undervalued coin, LOCI is designed for the patent industry. You can use their unique (and already working) system called LOCI Search (Previously "InnVenn") to search for existing patents. Currently that's an expensive process, but LOCI should make it far more affordable. Huge potential ROI here.

  7. AdEx (ADX) - AdEx makes me want to cry a little. It's an advertising coin (similar to Basic Attention Token) that I have held for almost a year. I'm still waiting for it to perform. I guess I'll just keep waiting! Crypto is a patience game...

  8. CryCash (CRC) - A gaming coin with the CryTech games on board (Crysis and Far Cry series). I don't know how much it will grow beyond that, though those are big names that attract attention and other possible users. It's my backup for Enjin Coin.

  9. HOQU (HQX) - Two words: Affiliate marketing. That's what HOQU is, in blockchain form. Cuts out the middle man in advertising. Also very cheap.

  10. NoLimitCoin (NLC2) - A coin for fantasy league sports. Also very cheap, this is not the typical kind of coin I would invest in, but I was told to take a look and I thought it worth giving a chance. I reality it will probably require a long hold to take off, but returns could be great if it does.

Speculate coins

Coins that I am willing to trade at short notice. I don't consider it important to maintain a position in them.

  1. LBRY Credits (LBC) - Pronounced "Library credits" this coin should be ranked higher on my hodl list. But it drives me insane! It should have performed a lot better, but for reasons unknown to me, it refuses to do so. I've been holding a long time... LBC is a big databank of various media: books, video content, images etc. According to me it should still go big! Time will tell. Prediction: I'll finally give up and sell and it will Moon the day after.

  2. Oyster Shell (SHL) - Brand new on coinmarketcap.com, this airdropped token is part of the Oyster system. No ICO took place, the only Shell tokens are those dropped to Oyster Pearl holders. I'm holding mine for now to see what happens next. After selling my ONT airdrop WAY too early I don't want to sell too soon again!

  3. Titanium (TBAR) - An impulse buy for me (exactly enough Ether to meet the minimum 0.1 ETH ICO requirement in the right place at the right time), TBAR has been less than impressive so far. Rocked by a security scandal, the original Titanium token called BAR had to be abandoned and replaced by TBAR. Crazy people kept trading BAR for a while after the change, even getting it into the CMC top 30 performers on occasion! This just shows how much amateur money is in the crypto market! I would have sold mine long ago, but it hasn't hit a decent price yet.

  4. Nebulas (NAS) - The search engine for crypto. The only reason I rank this as "speculate" is because I missed the bus and didn't get in at a good price. I don't really hold enough of it to justify holding it at all. I like the project though. If you have enough of it, you should hold it.

  5. Arbitage Token (ARCT) - Another long-shot. It does what the name says it does. Will it work? Eh... maybe. That's why I only bought a little of it and don't have it listed as a long-term hodl. A high risk/high potential ROI buy. At the price it's selling, you can't really go wrong with buying it. (Market cap - only $475 596!)

  6. Neo Gas (GAS) - The utility token of the NEO blockchain. GAS is used for all NEO chain fees. It's generated by any NEO you hold. Every now and then I use mine to buy a little of something else.

  7. Ether Classic (ETC) - I only have ETC because I was cloud mining it a little. I switched to it for a while because price was climbing, making it a more profitable coin to mine. I don't believe in the platform (it's another platform coin), so I don't recommend buying it. Hard to tell if it's worth holding because investors are so crazy (See Titanium above).

Dump it when the price spikes

These are the coins that I'm sick of and will dump as soon as it means I don't make a loss doing so.

  1. Golem (GNT) - Perhaps I'm being stupid and impatient here, but I'm tired of waiting (about a year) for this decentralised A.I. coin to do something. I have Deep Brain Chain anyway, so my Golem can go.

  2. Kin (KIN) - Related to the Kik social network, this coin has been underwhelming to me. I don't own enough of it to make it worth a hodl, and I'm not particularly keen on it either. It's not a bad coin, but I don't want it taking up space in my portfolio.

Extras

I also have a few coins that remain uncategorised. They are either airdrops, coins that are not on CMC yet, or coins still in ICO. Since most are not commonly available for trading yet, I will not bother listing them. The only one you can buy so far is NEXT - the coin of the NEXT exchange (worth a look).

That's the end of what I hold. Hope this reference has helped you a bit and put your own portfolio into perspective. I've had and sold many other coins and no doubt my portfolio will change in times to come. It's a good idea to stay flexible and not become emotionally attached to coins (except NEO, because NEO is special!), but it's also a good idea to find great coins and hodl them until they succeed. DYOR, DYOR and then DYOR some more. Research never ends. Keep checking on all your coins to see how the projects are going, prices aren't so important, projects are. Good projects should rise to the top; eventually.

Please feel free to discuss anything I have said in these three "Coins I Hold" posts, or discuss your own coins. An opinionated person like myself always has something to say! 😜
