Maybe autonomous vehicles will get us theresteemCreated with Sketch.

I'm sure you've seen the memes out there, or you've heard someone say it on a video. A future where it's not necessary to convert to fiat, we all transact in cryptos. But of course, nobody offers how we get there and understandably so, it's not easy to predict. Needless to say this is my best attempt at a sound speculation, but it's just that, speculation.

Base Value

If you've been trading cryptocurrencies for a while, there is a good chance you don't think in dollars anymore. I tend to calculate everything in satoshish these days, mainly because I'm not cashing out, but the point I'm trying to make should become apparent. I'm accumulating as much as I can, and speculating one day it will go up, that's it.

Truthfully there is no other reason to hold most of the tokens out there, because none of them have a solid floor valuation. Granted some tokens allow for influential participation of social networks, which is the case for STEEM, but unless I needed to cash out right now, the USD value is not my main focus, that's the point.

It seems to me however, that a lot of projects are trying to put the wagon before the horses so to speak. Meaning that they've not been able to solve the floor valuation issue, yet they are hoping people would use their extremely volatile assets, their speculative assets, to do commerce with. And yes, some people have no problem with this, but they are the uncommon ones of the bunch.

It's also very obvious to see that the recent push for stable currencies is nothing but a means to an end, meaning that the projects that are either building such a thing or already here, are needed to bridge that gap and to allow for some traders to safeguard themselves if needed. I won't go into details on why most of them will fail, that's another post, but in truth they are surely here temporarily and this is quite apparent to me.

The shift, the opportunity

Some people believe and wrongfully so, that decades would have to go by before we see self driving vehicles in the roads, but that's probably because they've not been paying close attention. The technology might be on it's infancy, but it's advancing so fast, if you sneeze you might miss one driving by.

What will this change do to our society? Honestly, it will probably change everything about it, and plenty of articles have been written on this very subject too. Needless to say, the economical disruption will echo through the fabric of society, but the convenience of a transportation system that eliminates human error will surely win in the long run.

And here is precisely where I see the opportunity for a floor valuation of a token, and how all of the sudden people stop thinking in USDs all together, or their equivalent FIAT of course.

Paying for Transportation

Imagine a world where it's not necessary, nor convenient at times for you to drive your own car. Let's take it even further: Imagine a world where all cars inside the city are self driving, where all transportation is public or at least commercial.

In this imaginary future passengers could simply use a token to pay for their rides, maybe a token that is the equivalent of 1 mile of passage or 10 minutes, you get the idea. The point being that a very needed service would be paid in crypto, and that most people would accept it to be the case, simply because there are so many of these vehicles out there, everyone and their mother uses them daily.

Just like that, a floor valuation is produced, and it's not connected to USD. In my hypothetical situation, nobody would be thinking "Ok...so 20 miles is 5 dollars, and in Mile Tokens... that's... " - the idea would be much simplified.

Will this happen? Of course I don't know, but I'm sure it would not be that difficult to implement for a big enough corporation. Now, if that leads us to centralized control of a ledger, or another one of those doomsday scenarios, that is entirely a different conversation.

Before I call this weird post of mine done, What do you think of automated vehicles yourself? You happy about them? Hate the idea? Scared? And... are you ready for mile tokens?

Much love

I don't*tcash out at the moment either. It's too soon. I don't think we're too far from the society that you predict, though. There's lots of other issues with it that have nothing to do with money, however, as you very firmly stated, that's a different conversation.

Agree with the new economy we will see soon and cryptocurrencies will power it given its capabilities to measure and settle automatically instead of having a middleman. So you can go further and imagine a subscription service where you pay what you use, no more no less... Crypto will facilitate it!

Self-Driving cars... I have so many conflicting thoughts about them... here is a story I wrote about it.

So essentially we’ll be paying for taxis using crypto or our autonomous vehicle in some distant future won’t use fuel nor electricity but use crypto as a type of a fuel??

Very possible... As for the fuel.. I'm guessing it would be electric, probably not Petro anymore
