#1 Full Screen Smartphones ohne Notch kommen

Der Trend zu immer größeren Screens bei Smartphones setzt sich auch im kommenden Jahr fort und 2019 wird als das Jahr in die Geschichte eingehen, in dem die Bezels und der Notch (die schwarze Aussparung beim iPhone X) den Kampf gegen das Display endgültig verloren haben. Flagship-Geräte werden 2019 aus hauptsächlich einem Screen bestehen und auch faltbare Phablet-Smartphones sind bereits von Samsung angekündigt worden. Das Schweinchen gibt auch die Hoffnung auf ein Comeback von Microsoft mit einem phone-ähnlichen Windows on ARM-Gerät nicht auf.

#2 Edge wechselt die Rendering-Engine und setzt in Zukunft auf Chromium

Apropos Microsoft, das ist kein Aprilscherz, sondern die Ankündigung ist echt. Damit geht die Ära des Internet Explorers nun endgültig zu Ende, da es Microsoft mit dem Neustart von Edge nicht gelungen ist, relevante Marktanteile zu gewinnen, obwohl Edge und die eigene Rendering-Engine EdgeHTML die letzten Jahre immer besser geworden sind.

Das heißt aber nicht, dass Microsoft Edge einstellt oder sich gänzlich vom Browsermarkt zurückzieht, sondern der Wechsel hilft Kosten zu sparen und die Entwicklung auf andere Bereiche zu fokussieren. Auch das ein oder andere Update und laufende Verbesserungen von Microsoft an der Chromium-Engine Blink können erwartet werden.

Insgesamt gesehen ist der Schritt aber problematisch, da damit ein wichtiger Anbieter wegfällt und Google damit eine Monopolstellung bei der Webbrowser-Entwicklung bekommt. Es bleibt also spannend, wie der neue Edge mit der Chromium-Engine vor allem technisch aussehen wird und wie stark es Microsoft gelingen wird, sich am Chromium-Projekt zu beteiligen.

#3 Bitcoin und Kryptowährungen werden sich 2019 wieder erholen

Im Kryptomarkt und auf hoher See ist man in Schweinchens Hand. 2018 war kein einfaches Jahr für Kryptoanleger und Bitcoin-Enthusiasten, da es fast das ganze Jahr nach dem unglaublichen Hype von 2017 kursmäßig bergab ging. Aber das könnte sich 2019 wieder ändern, da sich Kryptowährungen und Blockchain-Anwendungen rasant weiterentwickeln.

Auch 2019 stehen uns noch stürmische Zeiten bevor, meint das Schweinchen, da Kryptowährungen noch eine verhältnismäßig junge Technologie und ein extrem kleiner volatiler Markt sind. Das Schweinchen geht allerdings im Laufe von 2019 von einer Erholung aus.

Das nächste große Ding im Kryptobereich sind nach ICOs sogenannte dezentralized Apps, oder kurz dApps genannt. Diese reichen von dezentralen Social Media-Anwendungen (wie Steemit) bis hin zu Kryptowährungs-basierten Spielen wie Steem Monsters oder CryptoKitties. Der Vorteil von dApps ist, dass sie dank Blockchain-Technologie transparenter und vertrauenswürdiger sein können und mittels Kryptowährungen gleich eine monetäre Komponente beinhalten können.

3 forecasts for the IT year 2019: I asked my sailor lucky Piggy to tell you 3 forecasts for the coming IT year 2019.

#1 Full-screen smartphones without a notch are coming

The trend towards ever larger screens for smartphones will continue in the coming year and 2019 will go down in history as the year in which the bezels and the notch (the black edge of the iPhone X) have finally lost the battle against the display. Flagship devices will consist mainly of a screen in 2019 and foldable phablet smartphones have already been announced by Samsung. My lucky pig also doesn't give up hope for a comeback from Microsoft with a phone-like Windows on ARM device.

#2 Edge will switch its rendering engine to Chromium

Speaking of Microsoft, this is not an April fool's joke, but the announcement is real. With that news the era of Internet Explorer is finally coming to an end, as Microsoft has not succeeded in gaining relevant market shares with the restart of Edge, although Edge and its own rendering engine EdgeHTML have become better and better in recent years.

However, this does not mean that Microsoft Edge is discontinued or withdrawing from the browser market, but that the change will help to save costs and focus development on other areas. Also expect several updates and improvements of the Chromium engine Blink by Microsoft.

Overall, however, this step is problematic because it removes an important competitor and gives Google a monopoly position in the web browser development space. So it remains exciting to see how the new Edge with the Chromium engine will technically perform, and how strongly Microsoft will succeed in contributing to the Chromium project.

#3 Bitcoin and crypto currencies will recover again in 2019

In the crypto market and on the high seas one is in Lucky Piggy's hand (German proverb). 2018 was not an easy year for crypto and Bitcoin enthusiasts, as the market went downhill most of the year after the incredible hype of 2017. But that could change again in 2019 as cryptocurrencies and blockchain applications evolve rapidly.

We still have stormy times ahead of us in 2019, says Piggy, as cryptocurrencies are still a relatively young technology and an extremely small volatile market. However, Piggy anticipates a recovery in 2019.

The next big thing in crypto space after ICOs will be decentralized apps, or dApps for short. These range from decentralized social media applications (like Steemit) to cryptocurrency-based games like Steem Monsters or CryptoKitties. The advantage of dApps is that, thanks to blockchain technology, they can be more transparent and trustworthy and can contain a monetary component with the power of cryptocurrencies.
