Great points! I've definitely been a little bit lax, and it's definitely an area I should improve on.

I really think that Black Mirror episode about the Social Media Scores really did cryptocurrency and blockchain such a massive favour... sure, you might never have anything to hide, but sometimes the system just works against you through no fault of your own.

It is ironic when people say they don't need to worry about their privacy because they have nothing to hide, and then will also complain about government decisions they don't like.

You can't always trust the systems... sometimes they are legitimately stupid... or dishonest. As everything gets more and more connected, it's adds to more convenience, but it also makes it easier for bad actors to take advantage. Privacy = control. Giving away control over you rarely ends well for you.

Yes. I barely recall the Black Mirror episodes, but the Chinese "Social Credit" system currently being rolled out should be enough to give anyone pause about just how far their own government may try to go at some point. Also, have you ever watched the Snowden movie? I watched it not long ago and I recall one of his statements at the end very clearly. It said that part of why it was important to do what he did was not that he was against the current American administration (at that time Obama), but rather because if he left the system in place, when a less benevolent leader came to power they would effectively have "turnkey tyranny" at their fingertips. How prescient that wound up being! Can you imagine such systems in the hands of the current American president!

Very interesting the post, when we started on the Internet and my children were small indicated some rules of conduct, thank God there were never setbacks. Rather they laughed at me when I told them I was talking to a stranger and suddenly began to show me their "noble" parts turn off that camera at the speed of light and never wanted to connect with unknown people. It was an unpleasant experience.

Now you explain that part of history so interesting in China, and I worry because we have more than 20 years doing opposition to a horrible Venezuelan government and one and each of my words are there and I do not regret having been opposition, fighter and not having let myself be intimidated by them.

And at least here at steemit I have felt free to write and describe the economic limitations, policies to which we Venezuelans have been subjected.

About the change of currencies and those things I do not know much I ask my children for help to make some change of coins or something due to the high inflation that is affecting us. I hope they know what you are doing there, anyway I will pass this post to you to read it and give me your opinion on the subject.

I liked reading you I had to use the google translator to write and read I hope it is understood perfectly.
Now I understand a little more that privacy that you speak of, grateful for such an excellent subject that moves our mind and improves our knowledge.

@crypto.piotr @indigoocean Thank you

Thank you for translating into English for me. I have very little time available to be online these days, so am much more likely to be able to read things I don't have to find a way to translate first.

I truly hope that the situation in your country does not go the way of China in the Cultural Revolution. But it is important to keep in mind how we can be free and also defensive at the same time. For some people it is not possible, because they need to be the face and name for a movement. But those people, we know from history, sometimes do wind up persecuted. For so many of us we may be able to be active in a way that makes a difference while still remaining anonymous.

Well, while I was looking for my last name in the world, I left a lot of messages to contact me, I found many in the whole world, some relatives and not others, so I'm not anonymous about the networks. Thank you for the very wise conjemos and I also hope, I trust that we Venezuelans will get ahead, maybe we need a little help, maybe a prayer for us. @indigoocean

Amazing comment @sacra97. Thank you for always beeing so supportive.

ps.
As you may already know, every weekend Im sending one memo with some recommendation to quality posts related to blockchain technology. I hope you don't mind receiving it.

I would always appreciate if you could show your support towards promoted authors (mostly by droping some valuable comment). But please don't ever feel pressured.

Im always only grateful to those who can support my efforts. But I fully understand that we all have our lifes and responsibilites outside steemit.

Yours
Piotr

I will try sometimes the time is short and it falls short, the work, the house, the children sitting down to read is very pleasant and pleasant @crypto.piotr

This is true.

always, I try to keep the privacy of my keys and, personal matters, more, if supplying that information, could in the future, cause me problems. As for the example you put of the Chinese revolution, here, in Venezuela, we have a long history about that, dictatorial regimes, badly called revolutionaries, use tactics of any kind, so that people fall into their trap, here, they have imprisoned, tortured and exiled, journalists and politicians for not sharing the same ideas of the national government.

Interesting thoughts for the future that I have also been thinking about as there continues to be so much AI and machine learning in everything we do these days. It feels like there will come a time when an algorithm will define you and that is truly sad and unacceptable in my opinion.

Well I think you're aware of the Chinese Social Credit system. That pretty much is an algo defining the value of each person, and dolling out favors and restrictions accordingly, down to what jobs you can apply to and whether you can take public transit. They are also one of the foremost countries in AI research. We can learn much about what may come next here (or attempt to) by watching other nations.

I'll go a little sideways from crypto anonymity, sorry about that, but I'm building on the idea of "I have nothing to hide". Such a limited perspective!

To keep it simple, if people have nothing to hide, why not make public their email password or private conversations, publish their bank statements monthly and of course live stream every move they make (even while they sleep)? As we know the last part has already been tried in TV 'shows', so there are people willing to do it and plenty willing to watch, even if that's only for show and money, and not the real thing.

But we can go further.

Let's just urge Warren Buffett to disclose his next plans before he sets them in motion, in the name of total transparency, to see how that goes!

In such a world, even the idea of keeping an innocent or a terrible secret comes in contradiction with total transparency. You should tell everyone that you're going to die the minute you find out, right? Post the results on FB or something like that. Or not? Ok, maybe I've gone a little too far with such an example, but we all know social media accounts are highly cosmeticised, to make us look good, and I don't necessarily mean the looks. Doesn't that go against full transparency or "I have nothing to hide" some think is doable and a good idea?

But you've described some more insidious ways in which total transparency can and has been used against people in the past. and I'm sure it's used today and will be in the future too. Excellent example with China's Cultural Revolution. I've forgotten about it.

Great points. It's not just about crypto for sure. I use that example here because this audience is obviously all holding some crypto, but really all of life involves choices we're making each day about how much we'll choose convenience over privacy. We have been trained in a very out of balance way. We now need to make a hard turn toward prioritizing privacy. Hopefully things like Brave browser really work. I know the govt. can crack VPNs if they're looking to. (Learned that by watching the Snowden movie.) And the military created TOR, so I always have some suspicion about whether it really hides anything from them. It's all so inconvenient though (aside from Brave browser, but that browser won't even let me log into airbnb). When we feel we aren't breaking any laws, it's easy to calculate that privacy isn't worth it. But we are forgetting that laws change.

always, we have to have a bit of cunning and, malice, we should not be supplying personal information, that, sooner rather than later, will cause us problems

Dear @indigoocean

Hope you don't mind this comment (a bit off-topic).

I know that you delegated some SP to dstors. I'm not sure if you're aware that they seem to shut down their project lately. Just check out their profile and read latest post.

Guys from dstors didn't even bother to contact people who supported them. Such a shame. This project looked very promissing.

ps.
I was wondering if you would consider supporting my efforts in building a crypto community here on Steemit..

Since HF20 took place, myself, along with a few other active "Steemians" decided to put in extra effort into making our little community stronger. And community build mostly on mutual engagement and support instead of financial rewards.

I recently delegated over 3500 SP to a group of 80 active steemians who struggled with low RC levels (resource credit). And the results has been great so far. One of my latest posts reached over 800 comments, which I found insane

Those results are only proving that our efforts are worth something. The only thing is that I can only do "that much" with my current resources.

Perhaps you could consider supporting our efforts with some delegation? I would seriously appreciate your help.

Please let me know what do you think. I will appreciate every feedback, regardless of your decision.

Yours
Piotr

I did see that dstors decided to disband and got my tiny delegation back from them. I'm happy to now transfer it to your project. What is the handle?

Mango is a fruit here in Venezuela if that's what you mean, but when you read the friend @crypto.piotr, he will refer to it as a very good splendid news, ha ha, good news @indigoocean

People just don't get it. Now you are relatively safe in your little world. But things are about to change. And if you have ever said anything anywhere on line the government will know what you said what you did and where you live. Then try saying I have nothing to hide when you get that knock on the door for disagreeing with your childs teacher when they were six. Or forgetting a parking fine 10 years ago. Or even telling your Bank mananger when he turned you down for a loan, That he was a fascist.... Oh you forgot that didnt you... But they didnt. 😎😎

LOL. Yep, the things that are "innocent" now can be a crime later, though your examples are a bit extreme (I hope!) People also have a false sense of safety in numbers, thinking "they can't persecute all of us for this." Yeah, millions, they can. They have, all over the world.
