Affordable Housing Initiative-

I was at the Affo office yesterday working on getting www.affo.io live. This office set up we have is cool, we are also using the space as a business incubator in a location that is known as a "poor" or "underprivileged" area. This incubator is called MLKSRQ located in the heart of Newtown, Sarasota. So far a Restaurant, Food Truck, & clothing store have spawned from our co-working space. Affo is by far the largest and most meaningful undertaking to come out of our incubator thus far. 

Here is one of the MLKSRQ incubator residents working on launching her second-hand clothing store.

Affordable housing is a HUGE issue in this area, here is an article that came out today in our local paper called "The Bradenton Herald" (http://www.bradenton.com/news/local/article91321652.html).

Home prices in Manatee county have been climbing sky-high at a rate that is almost being considered a "bubble". This leaves practically zero affordable housing options for those with low-income. This is just the tip of the iceburg, we have a broader issue here. The owners of the "cheap" homes are almost running a monopoly, charging "whatever they want" for rent and not maintaining their properties leaving people in unlivable conditions...why? because they can.

This is where Affo steps in. We have one goal and one goal only, and that is to provide affordable housing opportunities to those in need (rent under $800). We can do this by using a method we uncovered that allows us to purchase properties for 10-20% their assessed value. Instead of doing what the greedy business guys are doing here, we are going to pass these profits on to others by renovating these homes and renting them out cheap.

I will update you all on monday and let you know if this becomes "affo-1" as we will be bidding against the same people who are creating the housing issue here in Manatee County.
