This post is my entry in the Tell Me About Where You Live Contes initiated by @derangedvisions. Check his account for lots and lots of great contest. Saw this contest and instantly wanted to participate, so here is my entry.

We start this post with a shot of me, one of the first here on steem I guess.

I live in a small town called Voorthuizen which is located in the centre of the Netherlands and has approximate 10500 citizens. Here I live with my girlfriend Sanne and two cats Chouffe and Micio, those last two you may know from some posts here. I live in Voorthuizen for about nine years now, my girlfriend comes from here, and love living in the center of the Netherlands.

Last year we bought our great house where we now live and recently renovated the back garden and situated a porch so no vacation abroad for us this year, just a few weeks around the house for some relaxing and helping situating the porch.

Some history about Voorthuizen [source] (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voorthuizen#Geschiedenis)

According to tradition, Voorthuizen arose around a ford (fore) in the no longer existing Ganzenbeek, through which the Hessenweg ran from Amsterdam to Deventer. The location on this Hessenweg and the intersection with the Harderwijk - Wageningen trade road made Voorthuizen an important stopping point.
In 1809 the new street road (Oude Rijksweg) was opened, which split the village in two. In 1972 the new national road south of Voorthuizen was opened.
On January 1, 1812, Voorthuizen was split off from Barneveld as an independent municipality. Six years later, on January 1, 1818, Voorthuizen was reunited with Barneveld.

At the end of the Second World War, during the Battle of Voorthuizen on the night of 16 to 17 April 1945, various buildings in the village were severely damaged.
Due to the post-war scaling up of Defense, the number of army barracks in the Veluwe was expanded. The same goes for the construction of the nearby army camp "De Wittenberg" in Garderen / Stroe (since 1978 called the General Major Koot Barracks) and the construction of a mobilization complex (MOB complex) on the Garderbroekerweg in Voorthuizen. As a result, many soldiers had to be housed in the region. Many people chose Voorthuizen, for which houses had to be built. This is how the first new-build district of Voorthuizen came into being in the early 1950s. Many soldiers were housed in this area around Jan de Jagerweg, neatly sorted by military rank. Thus it came about that this neighborhood was popularly called Little Korea. With the arrival of these soldiers and the post-war development of tourism, a shift took place from traditional farmers to wider-oriented residents. These two developments have ensured that Voorthuizen plays a liberalizing role in the Barneveld municipality.

Back to the present day. Voorthuizen is a vascation village, meaning that there are a lot of campsites surrounding Voorthuizen. This results in a population increase during the summer months from the 10500 normal to about 40000 to 50000. During the top of the season we go to a nearby village for our groceries due to all the tourists in the local supermarket. Thanks to the tourists a lot of activities are held in Voorthuizen during the summer months but it also brings some irritations to the locals as they disrupt normal life a bit.

There is a great recreational area nearby called Zeumeren, on which I did some posts in the past. Besides the recreational water with beach and play sites for the children there is also a wakeboard/waterski track situated, a minigolf track, a short golf track and an indoor climbing play site for children. All together a great place for recreating or a nice stroll in winter around the water. Some of the other tourist attractions in the neighbourhood are an Toy and old crafts museum, a corn maze, a market with fest every Tuesday in the summer months, a great music festival at Zeumeren called Gelderpop, an old-timer tour with a 600+ old-timer parade, a food festival, all the parties hosted at the camp sites and much much more.

And for now I only talk about Voorthuizen not all the stuff you can do in the surrounding villages. Besides all the organized entertainment there is also a lot of nature surrounding Voorthuizen where you can go for a nice stroll, a bicycle ride or for the more adventures people a nice mountain bike trail.

Because it's situated central in the Netherlands and the west side of the Netherlands is getting fuller and very expensive to live more and more people from the big cities strike down in Voorthuizen. Lots of the mstayed at the camp sites for some years before they decided to stay for good. So a lot of new houses are build at the moment, but as it is expexted in this time and age the new houses are build all very green and self serving in energy needs. So Voorthuizen is still a growing village where lots of people originated outside of the village like it, me including.

All together a great place to live I think and a place where we will stay until we are old and grey. Situated central in the Netherlands has a lot of advantages, almost all places in the Netherlands are within an hour drive.

Have an amazing day!
