Spotlight Writing Contest#2 "Boons Of Womenhood" A Short Story.

This story is based on a small poor family residing on Kolkata, India. Kamalkant, head of the family and father of two girls. Kamalkant is a private taxi driver in Kolkata. Bhavini, Kamalkant's wife always scolded by his husband as she don't give birth of a boy, is a pure housewife.

Bhavini managed her family anyhow as her husband Kamalkant is a complete drunkard and can't provide enough money for his family.
Bhavini working as a maid servant in neighbour family to educate her two daughters. Apart from working as maid servant, Bhavini is also doing sewing of neighbour old cloth at night time and Earn some extra money for her family. Jaya , her elder daughter always assist her to manage all household activity.
Jaya and Vijaya are two sister. Time is passing any how, and both are going to school in a Vidyaniketan government school. Vijaya always rank first position in her class anual examination. Jaya is also a good student but she can't get enough time to read as she have to help her mother's household activities as she is older than Vijaya. Jaya don't mind that and she loves her sister too much and she always want that her sister should do well in the school. Jaya always help her sister in reading, Inspite of reading her own books.
As we always know that God's Blessing is not for the poors. This becomes true for Kamalkant's family when Kamalkant died in a road accident.

After Kamalkant's death everything is changed. Bhavini alone can not managed the family. So Jaya join her mother and start working in neighbour family as a maid servant . Jaya was 13 years old and Vijaya was 10 years old at the time of their father's death.
Both Jaya and her mother want that Vijaya should continue her study despite of their critical financial situation.
Everything was going on smoothly untill the day when Jaya was raped by Suresh, the son of Prabhu where Jaya worked for. That day is very horrible day in Jaya's life. Jaya usually go to Prabhu's house in the morning at 10Am. That day Prabhu's wife was not in the house, only Suresh alone staying in the house. Jaya was just the age of 14years then. Suresh , son's of Prabhu,is 22years old boy. When Jaya was cleaning Suresh room, suddenly Suresh , closed the door and forefully raped her. The incident was so sudden and Jaya was not enough mature so that Jaya can't resist Suresh. This incidents grew her much older than her actual age.
The Poor Jaya have to silent after being raped as she know nobody help her but only criticized because they are helpless. After being raped by Suresh, Prabhu, Suresh's father give her Rs 5000 as a compensation and speak her not to disclose the matter.
Jaya come back to her home with the money and handed the money to her mother and start crying infront her mother and telling her mother about the incident. Her mother's understand everything that happened with Jaya . Her mother speak her not to cry and not telling anybody because of her little innocent sister.

Jaya stop crying and feels brave herself . In that night Jaya cannot sleep as her holebody was paining because of that incident. Jaya was thinking that as she already loose her virginity/feminity, so nobody will marry her in future and she also understand that where ever she worked , plenty of people like Suresh are their in the world those will everytime try to mollest them.

She hear about the high profile brothels before who earn huge money by selling their feminism/body. She decided to become a prostitute as there were no other choice left for her during that time.

Then in the morning she took some money from home and going to the market and buy some good cloths for herself along with other necessary items that make her beautiful .
After come back home, she bath with good quality soap and prepare herself for next movement.
Her mother's understand everything about Jaya's attitude. She just watching Jaya.
Then in the night Jaya leave her house, wearing new dress . She looks very pretty and she go to Sonagachi, which is a renowned place for brothels.
From Sonagachi , a new journey of her life started. Every night she sleeps with different men for money and stay their with others brothels. There are lots of girls like her in Sonagachi who welcome Jaya in her new journey .
She start collecting enough money and send those money to her mother's for educating her sisters.
After that Jaya never comeback home.
Initially her sister Vijaya doesnot understand anything as her mother never speak her correctly about Jaya. But laters Vijaya know everything about her sisters Jaya and her sacrifice. Her mother was also never want to meet Jaya as she became prostitute.

Very soon Vijaya was proved herself that her sister's sacrifice will not go in vein. Vijaya graduated from Jadavpur university with first division.
Very soon Vijaya managed a government job as a highschool teacher in Kolkata.
Jaya was very happy at that day when Vijaya joining as a teacher in Ramakrishna Vidyaniketan . Its a long journey, almost 10 years Jaya never meets her sister and mother during this time. Jaya only sending money to her family. All communication made between them was going on through letters from post office.
One day Jaya come to meet her sister in Ramkrishna Vidyaniketan.
It was 4 pm in the evening. Vijaya is coming out from the school wearing a good dress with other's colleague and see somebody standing very near to the school gate and watching her .
Jaya called her sister's "Vijaya, Vijaya". Vijaya ignored her elder sister's and pass by speaking her "who are you, I don't know you".

Jaya was very much frustrated with Vijaya's attitude and crying herself.
Very soon she understand that she is a brothel and she can't have any sister's and any family so she keep silent and watching her sister going with dignity. She proud herself and feel happy that all her sacrifice is successful.
After that Jaya forget everything about her family and her sister and started a group with other's prostitutes in Sonagachi for improvement of their future life when they are going old. Jaya and other group members are making a house in where they can live peacefully after certain age. At the same time they are starting a business for their living.

This is our society which separate two sister's. One is staying inside a dark place but showing light to her sister's but the other after achieving success forget everything because of loosing dignity as prostitutes are hated by our society.
There are so many Jaya and Vijaya in our society.
Conclusion: Prostitution is not an offence . Women who are in this job are basically absorbing all sin from the society. If these prostitutes are not there, no women are safe in this society. But still our society hate these prostitutes. Thats Why they can't living with their own family after coming into these business.
