Why Cosplay?

Lyz Brickley is a Cosplay YouTube star with over 15,000 subscribers. She use to be a model before she began having fun designing and dressing up in her favorite game and movie characters. With over 15K followers on YouTube, 166,000 followers on Instagram, 236,000 likes on Facebook, the evidence is clear that Cosplay is quite a formidable (and well liked) force out there.

Look at what this girl does. She sews a little bit, she wears costumes all day and has gawkers by the thousands line up to take her picture. Undoubtedly, (and this is speculation on my part but theorized based on past chats with Cosplay paid models) she tours the big Cosplay venues and Comic Cons out there in the world, is hired by big named companies to don her gear for them once and a while and has a ton of fun doing it. Meantime, she's having the time of her life while making drops of cash at the bank. Lyz is one of many Cosplay Queens out there that have turned a fun hobby into a fantastic and fantasy lifestyle that now makes her money.

This goes to show this movement is nothing to shake a stick at. It also goes to show that anyone who has the gumption, a video camera and a few dollars to dress themselves up can make a killing using social media by publicizing themselves and their character(s). Good for her. So why not? Get up and go for it yourself! Have a little fun donning a costume that makes you feel emboldened. Make a stand for good. Because on a personal note, I think that's what the world needs more of...People showing other people that it's okay to have fun AND make money at the same time doing what they love.
