DIY: How to Prevent and Cope with Depression
Depressions are everywhere. In this contemporary world, most of us are prone to depression. A lot of us is silently suffering from depression because we don't want to bother and become a burden to other people. So how can we cope with depression by ourself?
STOP BEING RESENTFUL TOWARDS NEGATIVE FEELINGS/EMOTIONS
The more we resent our negative feelings, the more it will lead us to depression. So if we have any negative emotions, we need to acknowledge it. We must not avoid it. We need to learn how to accept what we feel.
Avoiding and resentment are a big no no. For they can explode like a volcano. It is better to acknowledge that it is there so we could think of a better way to heal.
Feeding ourself with hateful words creates nothing but a monster of depression that can eat us alive. Instead of hateful words, we need to learn how to be kinder, more loving, and more caring of ourself. If we learn how to feed ourself with positive and kind words, stubborn depression will walk away in no time. Monster depression loves hateful and negative words because it can contribute to his/her growth but he/she hates positive and kind words for it has a bigger impact on our growth.
WRITE IT ON YOUR JOURNAL
Having a journal is a must for it can save you from depression. By writing our feelings daily we have a greater chances to know ourself better. We easily acknowledge our thoughts and feelings for that day.
If you are already depress, the more reason you need to write especially if you are the type of person, like me, who doesn't want to share things to other people because you don't want to be a burden or you simply you don't want to bother others with your depression. Venting on paper is easier and safer to do. If you don't want other people to find and read it, you can burn it or if you are using your mobile or computer, you can simply delete it after writing. You will feel better after writing. Trust me. I tried it. 😉
LISTEN TO POSITIVE MUSIC, WATCH MOTIVATIONAL VIDEOS, AND READ INSPIRING STORIES
When we are depress we tend to listen to sad songs, scroll on facebook for hours, watch sad movies, etc. Do you think it is helpful? NO, it's not! So stop listening and watching emo songs and movies. Stop scrolling on facebook because seeing the happy post of your friends will get you jealous and you will start to wonder why they are happy and you are not.
Do the opposit instead. Listen to happy and motivational songs. Watch motivational and inspiring movies. Read inspiring and happy books or articles. It will make you feel better and happier.
STAY AWAY FROM YOUR ROOM AND HAVE AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE
When we are depress we tend to sleep a lot. We lock our doors, close or curtains and we don't bother turning on the lights of our room. That kind of action makes monster depression happy. But when you tried to open your room windows, your curtains, your door, and allow light to be present in your room, the monster depression will become smaller. Especially if you turn on some music and dance.
You can also go for a walk and run. It helps me so much and I am sure that it will do the same to you. You will start to feel happy, good, energized, and accomplished. Try it.
START HANGING OUT WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE
Meet positive people that will help you grow. That will encourage you to do better with your life. You can meet them both offline and online. Based on my experienced there are many positive people online and I can easily find them in fb groups, forums, and here at Steemit.
Start sharing your hopes, dreams, and ideas and they will welcome you with open arms.
Travel Credits to @libert.
I forgot to include this. And I agree with @libert. Traveling can heal us. Especially if we travel to see the beauty of nature.

Eating chocolates is very effective :)
Just don't overeat you'll get fat. Nice post @iamrosallie :)
I love what u said.. And true indeed
@lordkingpotato chocolates are good for other people like you but not for me. Aside from being fat already😂😂😂 My Doctor won't allow me to eat chocolates😭😭😭😭 but it is for my own good. Tried to eat but I ended up suffering from stomach pain and palpitation. So I better behave😊😊😊😊
Thanks!
I feel your pain ;(
When you are depressed, you should travel as well.
@libert Ilove to travel too.😊😊😊 while writing this post, I was thinking for ways and solutions that a person can do without spending any money. But thankyou for your suggestion. I will edit my post later so I could include travel too.😊😊
Agree @libert @surpassinggoogle
This, depression, should be given much attention nowadays..as we could see.and hear that.many people now resort to sex, drugs and even suicide, to the worst because of too much depression and having the lowest self-esteem.
In my opinion, to.avoid this to getting worse , this should be given much emphasis.in.the academe... Including awareness, its causes and symptoms of having 1, the preventions and how to survive if u are within.
Relationships among Families and even friends play a vital role to have this avoided..
Develop the habit of calmness, openness and understanding...
Very interesting post.this really helps @iamrosallie
Thanks @nayrpay. Yes, I agree with everything you said. I'll try to talk about it with my former professor in Sociology regarding your suggestion. Hope we can spread awareness to this in ways that we know of. 😊
Thanks for that @iamrosallie. Im following you. Hope u like my posts, too
It is really important that we have someone to talk to that we can express our feelings. Chester a lead vocalist of Linkin Park has been the recent victim of this. We are the only one who can control our mind do not be a WEAK one and overpowered by Depression.
Keep your chin up! Go out into nature and look for the small things in life that bring you joy. Then you'll see what life is all about😊.
