Greetings dear community this is my entry to the cooking contest with you and I want to share this food that has become the favorite of my home. "Lagarto Guisado"
The story behind this dish
I am from Venezuela a country where its gastronomy is characterized by having a great variety of stews. In our country it is customary to cook chicken, meat, vegetables, fish, venison, rabbit, etc. but it is not customary to cook lizard meat because it is only used for soup. In this country the economy is presenting serious problems and housewives have to be very creative when it comes to buying so that the money reaches for other necessities.
Once I did not have much money to buy meat or chicken and I decided to buy lizard which is a cheaper meat and I wanted to experiment preparing a great stew.
These were the ingredients I used to prepare the stew:
Eggplant
Cebollín
Chili pepper
Peppers
Onoto
Salt
My surprise? it became my family's favorite dish
The experiment came out better than I imagined, the lizard stew had a unique taste as a combination of flavor to chicken, fish and meat at the same time, with a pleasant texture and soft to the palate that accompanied with rice and a simple salad of Tomatoes and cucumber make an explosion of flavors and textures, ideal for a lunch! My family was surprised when they ate the dish and since then they ask me to do this rich experiment again.
Thanks for reading my post it is a pleasure for me to participate in this contest. Blessings to all!!
Thank you @maritza123 for your entry and for the story behind the dish. Please can you provide a proof pic to make this a valid entry
Hi @maritza! Welcome to @cookwithus! Thank you for sharing this very unique dish with us. I have never cooked or eaten lizard before. I guess the closest that I have eaten is alligator. I love your story about how this dish came to be. So many of the great dishes of the world are made with the most economical ingredients. Throughout time people have used whatever is available to make something new and special. That is what you have done with your lizard stew. I would love to be able to try this dish.
I noticed that you did not put a proof photo with your entry. There is still plenty of time for you to do this and then your entry will be valid. The contest closes on Monday. A proof photo is made by putting your Steemit name, the name of your dish and the date onto a piece of paper and taking a picture of it with your dish. Here is an example of a proof photo.
If you have some stew leftover just make a photo like this one. If you have any questions please ask and we will help you. We really want your entry to be a valid entry. Thanks! Chef Steve
thank you very much
Oh my sounds interesting as I never ever tried lizzard ... when I saw the pics I thought Osso Buco resembles it a lot ... I doubt that I will be able to try this out as there is no way I can get lizzard meat here at the moment ... but sure would love to try it ... I had totally imagined that lizzard meat would look way more like chicken in the meat , so very interesting to learn something new ...thank you for sharing
thank you very much I will be showing you some more of my recipe
Thanks for your #cookwithus entry @maritza123!
What an interesting dish! I'm glad your choice of buying lizard instead of regular meat turned out to be a success. When you make your family happy, I'm sure it makes you happy too.
Does lizard meat need to be cooked for a long time to make it tender? The combination of the flavors of chicken, fish and meat sounds so delicious!
