Secrets of the use of peppers

in #cooking6 years ago (edited)

Recently there was about gastronomy, today also about it in a way. I disprove myths, I look for the truth about the sharpness of food. Is sharp food good for everyone? Can it prevent prostate cancer? Has a positive effect on sexual desire? Or maybe it causes skin problems? These and other questions will be answered below.

Scoville scale - what is it?

It is abbreviated as SHU, from Scoville Hotness Unit - the scale of spiciness of a given dish, mainly used in relation to paprika. It determines the amount of capsaicin, which is a substance that causes a feeling of sharpness in the product. The scale was introduced by American chemist Wilbur Scoville in 1912.

The official the sharpest pepper is Carolina Reaper. Unofficially Pepper X wins, followed by Dragon's Breath.

TRUE or FALSE?

I have already heard many theories, but is everything we believe in right? Or maybe part of it is total nonsense, which should be avoided?

  • Spiciness lowers blood pressure.
    TRUE!
From now on a diet! No bacon, pork knuckle or fatty food! From now on only lettuce for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Diet is OK, but to prevent heart attack or stroke it is worth eating dishes with capsaicin. It has been scientifically proven that it lowers blood pressure through a series of complex mechanisms that the average person is unlikely to understand. However, here too, you cannot exaggerate, because an overdose can cause the opposite effect and can even lead to myocardial infarction.

  • Sharp food causes ulcers.
FALSE! Over the years, doctors have claimed that frequent consumption of spicy foods or spicy sauces is one of the causes of gastric ulcers. Recently it has been proven that Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium surfing on our stomach, is responsible for these unpleasant ailments.

  • Helps relieve pain.
    TRUE!
Capsaicin acts on pain receptors through a burning sensation. The brain reacts by releasing endorphins — the happiness hormone. They help relieve pain.

  • You can reduce the risk of prostate cancer by eating sharp things.
    TRUE!
About 14% of men will have prostate cancer at some point in their lives. To prevent this, you should eat spicy peppers or different kinds of food with them. Capsaicin not only has an analgesic and warming effect, but also attacks prostate cancer cells and inhibits their multiplication.

  • Spicy foods can cause preterm birth.
    FALSE!
Capsaicin, which is contained in spices or sauces, can irritate the stomach of a pregnant woman, but it will do the same for the average person. There is no evidence that it has ever led to preterm birth or had a negative impact on the development of the child.

  • Sharp food cleanses the bays.
    TRUE!
Tiring rhinitis? The bays are not calm? There is a solution! Just add a lot of curries or spicy sauce to lunch for immediate relief.

  • Capsaicin causes acne.
    TRUE!
Capsaicin consumed in excessive amounts may cause problems with the skin, such as pimples or acne.

  • Men who eat sharp things have more testosterone.
    FALSE/TRUE.
Studies have shown that men who like spiciness in eating have a higher level of testosterone than men who avoid such pleasures. But... Eating plenty of spicy food will not make testosterone levels rise. It is more about the fact that men who already have a lot of this male hormone are more fond of risky activities.

And with this positive accent I will finish my article. Now you can run for kebab on thick dough, poured with a spicy sauce, or order a pizza with jalapeno peppers. Even time is conducive to this. And then, dear men, put the spicy peppers in bed and take care of your beloved! She will surely be satisfied! :)
