And I have to say those chilies look really good! Having grown up along the Mexican border, I am quite fond of spicy food, and it's really hard to find here in Buenos Aires.

On my way to and from one of my favorite students, there is a little verdulería run by a Bolivian family who sometimes have spicy peppers of various sorts for sale. Usually it's just ají and/or locoto, but occasionally they have jalapeño. The thing with both ají and locoto is that they vary hugely in the degree of heat contained in each individual pepper. When I'm making my homemade hotsauce, I always touch a cut piece to my tongue to gauge its heat, and decide what mix of ingredients I am going to use in order to get the spicy-but-not-suicidal sauce I prefer.

And there are varieties of ají which are not spicy at all, including the big yellow ones that are used to prepare the traditional "ají en vinaigre".

So, my questions for you, after that long-winded digression (heh!) is this - how hot are those peppers? Is spicy food a part of traditional Ukrainian cuisine? You seem to be spending some time there in Ukraine, perhaps you could do a review of Ukrainian food for us, if that idea interests you.

$.55 wish I could buy them
