Fox Tales WK#37 : Announcing contest winners and a new story image!

in #contest5 years ago

If you love writing stories then this contest is for you! Write a one paragraph story about the image pictured above. Be creative, think outside of the box and follow the listed rules!

Hello writers and fellow art lovers! Sorry for the delay in announcing winners and a new prompt. @kommienezuspadt is getting ready to leave for a long work trip tomorrow so I’ve been busy helping him with his work and mentally preparing myself to survive the next two weeks without him.

This image was drawn up awhile back when I was still learning how to draw hands. I don’t have a fear of sketching them like I used to, now they’re actually my favorite because of the variety of expressions one can make with a simple gesture.

The progress...

All my drawings are original sketches drawn digitally by me on the Procreate App using the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.

I started with a simple outline in pencil.

Then I introducing a warmer pencil shade, sketching the details and outlining the hand.

Cool toned shadows were painted in with a round brush tool.

Then an overall wash of gray.

Next, warm toned shading.

I didn’t want the hands to look like they were just floating so I sketch something that could be cloth, I guess it’s how you interpret it.

WEEK #36 WINNERS & STORIES!

1st place // @vasigo “Man from another world”
She was angry like never before. At least she thought so. Another stressful working day was over, and she was going through the streets full of people like she was. She didn't know who made her nervous more, the boss always has something to reproach, and clients who are expecting from her to make all their wishes come true. It doesn't make a sense to change the company, it's the same everywhere. She just stopped in front of the bar. It was a good chance to come in, take a drink and kill all the people around to free up frustration. So, she came in, took a drink and watched to the faces around looking for the most irritant person to shout out and relieve the stress. There was a man sitting next to the window who took her sight. He was calm like he wasn't from this world of agony and oppression. Reading newspapers and taking a sip of coffee from time to time. His calmness made all her stress and frustration disappear. She went to his desk and sat across from him. He lowered the newspaper and looked to her surprised. "What's the secret of your calmness?" She asked. "I'm my own boss." He said. The answer astonished her. "I'm washing shop windows." She was disappointed by his profession. He noticed her reaction and continued. "I have no boss to wade me, no company to shape me. I'm paying low tax. And after all, I have time for myself." He was right, she minded.
2nd place // @wems “Her kind of beauty”
This world wasn't like hers. She didn't understand them at first, but she blended in well. She was an alien and she could take up any form. All she had to do was wear this new world's look until she's called back home. They praised her beauty, her perfectly defined brows, the long and pointed nose, her lips were full and pillowy. Her eyes were deep, captivating and beautiful. This she had done in less than an hour when she first arrived on earth. She wonders how they could call this beauty. To her it a was a blunt look. Pale and depressing. She wished she could show them her other face. Her people's face. Where the face modifications are to insert things on their faces, they had nose plugs which when inserted made their noses like that of hippopotamus, they had lip plate inserted in the lower lip or top lip. This expands the lips in ridiculous dimension and shapes. She smiled as she remembered her root. And soon she's going to be her other self, soon.
3rd place // @theironfelix “The Daughter of Woman”
As brush strokes strike the canvas, the oil drips sing a slow tune down, down the canvas skin. Oh how the canvas moans with each strike followed by a slow graceful slide across the skin. Yet the artist isn’t here to please nor give pleasure to the canvas, for the eyes are homed in on the illusive face gridlocked in the museum. The artist’s hands pauses, placing down the palette and brush, which allowed the body-n-legs to self-erect themselves and allow a stretch. A chair squeaking, a child was hoisted by the artist’s hands and plopped on the laps; now the artist’s eyes was directly staring at the lady who so much barely inched except for coughing or the occasional sniffs. The child’s hands tugging at the necktie of the artist, the artist’s hands patted her head as she uttered child-like love to both of them. Resting on the artist’s arms, the artist soon hoisted her up and carried her back to the canvas and began painting once more the portrait. Sprinkling in the lil’ perfections, the artist’s hands yanked out a sponge and began erasing all about. As the sponge soaked the paint and administered water all about the canvas which was still moaning while the water snickered when it struck the floor, the artist’s legs shot up and the lips curled up in glee to show the illusive sitting women. Twisting the canvas around, the artist shot an arrow at the dark with this showcasing of the work. The lady’s eyes saw the art: she moved not when seeing the complexities, she reacted not to her facial expressions, she inched barely with all the water still dripping and stayed the way she was. Yet, the artist’s voice-box screamed joyously as both the artist and the child left together.

Thanks so much to all the writers who participated!
