Incompetent, rich people are more likely to get ahead than smart people with no money

Does one's background significantly affect the performance and likelihood of success?

Research is revealing that it, indeed, does. People from the better backgrounds tend to exhibit overconfidence. This trait enables one to appear more competent than one might be.

The overconfidence comes through on job interviews, once again leading people to believe that person to be competent. This trait is something that is instilled in people at a young age.

Presidential Beta O'Rourke made waves with a statement that appeared to be proclaiming himself to be "made for the Presidency". He clarified the statement claiming he was talking about public service. Beta is a Columbia graduate.

The current President, Trump, does not have a problem proclaiming the intelligence of himself and those around him. Many feel he believed, even back in the 1980s, that he was destined for the Presidency in spite of never holding political office. He even stated that his Cabinet had the highest I.Q. ever.

Overconfidence helps to drown out others in the room. This is especially true when it is not a room full of Ivy League graduates. It serves as a way to keep the lower classes down and further create inquality.

That's somewhat true. People question themselves more when someone overconfident is around. Most of the time they are smarter but they don't act. Which is needed to be successful.

I think the issue here is competence. If you're just smart and you know things but doesn't have the discipline and you don't do things as you say it... then you aren't competent and you will always be below incompetent people who has more money.
