The Empty City

Pol lifted his wrist and tapped his communicator. It beeped but nothing happened. He walked out of the windowless room and down the to the window at the end. Once again he tapped his communicater and this time there was a response.
"Did you find anything Pol?"
"Just a room with multiple view screens that didn't make any sense. What about you Jace?"
"Nothing so far. What's your location? I'll join you then we can head to the south quadrant."
"Sending my coordinates. How far out are you?"
"I'll be there in ten minutes."
"Okay in the mean time I"ll check a few more floors and see if there is anything else to be found."
"Just stay alert. This place gives me the creeps."
And at that Pol walked away from the window and into another room. Something felt different about this room but he couldn't tell what and he hoped the equipment Jace had would pick something up. Until then he stepped out and marked the door.
There were four more rooms on this floor. He figured he had just enough time to check them before heading downstairs despite the fact that he wanted to see if he could find if there was a room 515. He had seen the number randomly pop up on at least three screens.
The other rooms were as empty as the rest of the place. He headed down to the first floor to meet up with Jace. When he got to the exit he stood looking around at the outside world. A flashing glint caught his attention. He pulled his safety goggles from his shirt pocket and put them on. He adjusted the light balance then looked in the direction of the flashing.
"Jace." He tapped his communicator and wzited for a response but no response came. Once again he tapped his communicator.
"Jace. Respond."
He tried the other three frequencies and still nothing. His wrist device started flashing and changed frequencies on it's own.
There was a crackling pop then what sounded like a voice before the frequency switched back.
