Cryptogirls Talk: Taking Up The Cudgels For The Ladies Of Steem 💛

A woman with a voice, by definition, is a strong woman. - Melinda Gates

Looking around on planet Steem I can actually see a lot of them..

Inspired by @theaudgirl's recent article Why I Think More People (Especially Women) Need to Tune into the Crypto Convo, I thought it could be a nice move to dedicate my latest milestone - hitting the reputation of 72 - yay! - to the ladies of Steem.

I'm not a huge fan of gender equality debates and women's quota, since I believe it condemns women to become just numbers where they actually should be respected for what they accomplish as human beings.

Here's to the unimportance of gender and the beauty of cryptogirls! :-)

@surfermarly admitting to her geekiness

Breaking the rules

Women are underrepresented in the crypto world in general, but Steem could be an exception from the rule.

While it is common knowledge that the tech industry has always had a lack of women, cryptocurrency seems to be male-dominated right from its roots. (...) Due to its origins of being male-dominated, the public perception of crypto-assets and Blockchain software continues to be that of an industry that is unappealing, and even unviable, for women. At the same time, cryptocurrencies and blockchain are strongly driven by coders, a profession that is more often than not considered to be male-driven. - Forbes

Steem can make the difference being the ideal gateway for non-crypto people into digital currencies!

While investing, trading, coding and mining are per se masculine domains, social media has a high attraction for female users. Communication is a field where a lot of women feel safe at, and that's reflected in the numbers.

As @theaudgirl perfecly investigated, only 5% to 7% of all cryptocurrency users are women. Now the fact that many applications we use to communicate with the Steem blockchain are social media apps, has a significant impact on these numbers.

Women are in the lead when it comes to using social media apps:

That's why we actually don't even need a debate about gender equality on Steem :-)

As long as we all agree on the fact that both men and women are equally respected content creators, we won't have any trouble in bringing enough ladies on the blockchain.

In other words (quote from the movie 'Jurassic Park'):

Life will find a way.

Girls will find a way, and they already do.

Take a look at yesterday's trending posts on dtube.video - I'd say we're on a par!

@dtube rankings: 3 girls of 4 in top videos and 2 of 4 in most fav videos

Why not use our 'secret weapon'?

To be honest, I have no problem in admitting that girls have certain advantages when it comes to present themselves in front of the camera.

Especially in a rather male dominated environment, an attractive appearance that enwraps a smart message is definitely a plus, and I think we should all be fine with that.

The fact that a lot of women are conquering the high rep positions on Steem, is evidence enough that we have a brain that works alright. From my personal point of view there is no need to especially underline that fact :-)

@surfermarly loving her Boomerang app

So here I am winking at my rep 72, happily striving for 73 :-)

Ladies of Steem, this one is for you:

Be cool, be smart, be pretty, be whatever you wanna be - there's no need to talk about gender when we can talk about so many other things. Go for it!

Much love,
Marly -

Yay for the ladies on Steemit!

It's quite interesting to read that most of the social media users are female, though I am pretty sure the majority of regular internet users are guys. Where does Steemit fit in this picture? I believe though, that Steemit would have a great position once it launches a native mobile application.

Haha, I love this animated GIF!!! :-)
How's your trip?!?

It seems that Steemit is somewhere in the middle:

The numbers are below the internet average, but it looks as if there were more than 5-7% women (average for crypto in general).

I guess that the ratio will be balanced out the more applications are built on the blockchain.

Have a great weekend, Shannon!!! :-*

Trip is great so far! Currently enjoying my fabulous bed in Kuala Lumpur in our little Steemit hotel apartment thingie. The weather has been awful here though: cloudy, humid, thunder, heavy rain. Weather was way better up in Thailand!

Pretty cool to think about how this silly platform just brought me to people whom I otherwise never would have met, to a place to I wouldn't have ever gone to.

Yea, I agree when more applications will be build on the blockchain it will also increase accesibility and would not only pull crypto enthusiasts (which again, I am guessing are more guys?).

Happy Friday <3

The weather is pretty much the same at my place! Winds, rain and cold temperatures. Time to have tea and lots of hugs though :-))

Pretty cool to think about how this silly platform just brought me to people whom I otherwise never would have met, to a place to I wouldn't have ever gone to.

So nice!! That's the Steem spirit :-)
Enjoy your wintery weekend

This post has been detected by @gender-bot for not getting enough attention and upvotes for the important message it provides! ;-*

Haha, you should run the @gender-bot defending the inequality :-D

I guess I am thinking about really doing this. This would be a really controversial thing to do.

Much love for all women (especially those on Steemit)! Keep doing your thing!

I'm pretty sure we will :-)

People need to stop worrying about equality so much. Women aren't men. Men aren't women. We each have things that we are mentally, physically, and emotionally capable of that the other sex really is not as good at. What's wrong with that? Every person is different, stands to reason that each sex is different.

Great comment, love your point of view and would sign every word! :-)

Thanks! I'm all for every person having the same shot, or other forms of equality. Common human decency, etc...but it's not necessary for us to go overboard and start trying to make everyone the same. Kind of would defeat the purpose of being human. Great post btw!

it's not necessary for us to go overboard and start trying to make everyone the same

Exactly!
I'm glad you enjoyed the read, I enjoyed reading your comments as well :-)
Enjoy your family weekend!

Thanks! enjoy yours as well!

Steemit has such an amazing female representation on here and like your perspective. You articulated some great points and yes, women shouldn't just join in to be a number!

My biggest point was that I think that we should encourage everyone to start up conversations with the people in their life closest to them about crypto as more people, men and women should join in these chats! That stat with the large gap between women + men was a big wakeup call to me about the crypto world and I want to do my part to see if I can spark the passion in others! You can tell that you spark passion in others to stay active in life and on Steemit. :) You post such fun, quality, inspirational, and very original content!

This is a great post and you can tell that you are loved by the community!

Thanks for your lovely comment, @theaudgirl!

I think we shouldn't sell steemit.com as a crypto-based web application but rather a tokenized social media app. That may attract much more users in general, not just talking about girls.

To be honest, no man is superior over woman nor is woman over man. They both are beautiful creations. To even debate it will have its consequences, there is no way both can be compared..But in today's era when social media is part of life..It's not Man or woman, but it's ones ability to deal with people in many ways, may it be art, fitness, writing,or any other talent..people just follow that..But Women do dominate in this aspect, May be they are just more beautiful than what actually we men are :)

To be honest, no man is superior over woman nor is woman over man. They both are beautiful creations.

Nicely said :-) Thank you!

Play out your strengths...
In the moment women are joining steemit they are not having less success, but they are often blocked by complicated techological structures and their will to study and use them.
At least it's like this with the women I recommended to join.

Play out your strengths

Definitely, like always in life :-)

With regards to complexity: From my point of view you actually don't need much technical knowledge to use a web application. The greater challenge is to produce attractive and meaningful content that's able to amaze a wide audience.

That's true!

If you want to make good looking posts you need a little bit fighting spirit. But some women (and probably men too) are just blocked away by the different forms of cash in their wallet and the different keys.
If you haven't done anything with crypto yet, it is either perfect to start via steemit or you are just too afraid.

Things just seem to come of better from women on videos lol But seriously you are an inspiration on the community here! Much success to you and other women here on steemit its great that we have all come together and good luck on that 73 rep!

Haha, thank you!! Why not saying that we're good at vlogs? I think that's totally ok :-)
Thanks for your encouragement and have a great weekend!

Not a big fan of the term "women equality" Personally I feel the term should be limited to "equality" regardless of gender belief or preference.
Equality should be equal and the need to fight for an specific equality, Should come under equality.why do we need to break the equality down into all these different categories. Surely a fight on any front for equality should not conflict with the equality of another entity.
When we place a word in front of equality, all other equals are primarily dismissed, and a concentration of thought put toward one line of thought/process to correct this flaw.

I feel we should build equality up. Not try to duct tape around all the inequalities we see within our world. Somehow we have to make everyone feel their voice is worth hearing, That is speaking we also need to be able to hear. In hearing we need to see alternatives, and the alternatives we need to be positive.

Equality requires acceptance of each other. Working with each other, and a moving away from the mentality of FU as long as I get mine.

I fully agree with you!
That's why I openend my article like that:

I'm not a huge fan of gender equality debates and women's quota, since I believe it condemns women to become just numbers where they actually should be respected for what they accomplish as human beings.

:-)

My respect is for women that will slap the victim's card from the hand of anyone who would give them one. If I were living in some barbaric place like Saudi Arabia, I would feel differently. But here in the US, women have it made. It is unfortunate that they continue to be used as political instruments.

I appreciate the excerpt from your post you quoted here. Classic liberalism works. Everything after that is a politically motivated charade, IMHO.

A note about the advantage women have for appearing on camera... the quality of followers they get for using that advantage tends to be a problem. While I'm a red-blooded male, and I understand what's happening there, I specifically avoid supporting content from people who seem to depend on their appearance and I wish more men would grow up and do the same.

👍👍👍
