TAGGING- The Real, Hidden Money Maker of STEEMIT!!!
How Important is it to effectively tag your posts on steemit?
I have found this aspect of steeming to be vitally important in terms of the overall success of your post payouts, and just the shear overall attention that your posts receive in general. This aspect is often times overlooked, especially at first when you are a newbie of steemit... you simply do not know how to go about this or what strategies to use in order to ultimately maximize your content's potential.
There is so much quality content here on steemit, and many times quality content goes unnoticed due to improper tagging of post's. I am a perfect example of this, but I am learning the ropes slowly, but surely as time goes by, thus my recent posts are generating more and more attention from fellow steemians.
Here are a few strategies to use when trying to determine what tags to use for your upcoming post's:
- Look at the most trending tags on steemit, and decide from there which tags seem appropriate for your post
- Find a few really hot ones that you would like to use, but DO NOT use these 'HOT' ones as your main tag (this strategy, as I have noticed, is the perfect strategy to use if you want your content to get buried at the bottom of the page where no one will see it)
- For your main tag (your first tag) use one that will allow your post to be floating around on the first couple of pages for some time, where chances are many more steemians will see it
- I usually look for a tag that still generates many viewers, but tend to stray away from one's like life and blog because this is how you will get swept right under the rug
As I finish up this post, I am beginning to contemplate just how I will go about tagging it because like I said, this is an extremely important factor, and if done incorrectly could ruin your chances of potentially reaching the TRENDING--HOT--PROMOTED TAGS... what do you guys think of the tags I chose for this post- nay or yay?

Great article however, this is something I really need to tune-in on, because I noticed that some posts do really well and others that I expect contain superior content do less so. I attribute this to TAGS. I put much more thought in my hashtags these days, and it seems to be working. This advice will help also, and I will RE-Steem it and hopefully jump start it! I'm gonna vote my post up to the top, I believe it might also help your efforts here, as your clock is 1/2 way elapsed :(

Steemit is a heavily trafficked hashtag. Maybe #1???

Yes, you can specify the vote % to use, giving a smaller % for say a decent reply, or maybe 50% for a GOOD and helpful reply or post, and 100% for the very best, or just for a friend you are trying to BOOST. Like Max, I have his new posts on autovoter set at 100% to immediately vote his new content. He's my boy in the 1kSP Program started by @taskmaster4450 and I have had him since he was a 25SP hatchling minnow :D lol He will have 200 today unless he squanders all his SBD on vote-botZ, booze and whores, again LMAO!!!
Yes, I've been thinking about the right tagging strategy as well! I've been posting a lot under photography and travel, so, quite popular tags and I might have lost some views from that - except the times I got 'trending'. Will look through the lists again and pick a few ones that might be 'fresher' ;-) The steemiteducation you use is a nice one as well!
It seems to be working, no??? Even though my posts are not getting HUGE payouts... a little will go a long way in the grand scheme of things here on steemit, so I am not too worried lol I am still gradually making money and gaining support!! I hope your success here on steemit continues, I will have to go and check some of your stuff out!!

How do you mean? Is this referring to your earlier comment about not being too popular / hot and not too general live "life" etc.
P.S. You don't mention "tags" in your tags (if you know what I mean ;))?
Yes @stevelivingston that was basically what I was referring to there... I like to choose one that still trends on steemit but has less posts being submitted to that particular tag... to sum it up, if i were to post about a trip or travel experience maybe I would tag adventure, as opposed to travel as my main tag bc I feel as though it would have less of a chance of being buried... I hope this helps

I'm not sure if your theory holds up. Perhaps if enough people dig the post it will be seen and up voted.
I just wish there was a way to have older posts more searchable. I tried creating a link for a tag only I use (to make share my previous posts) but I only get to show the newer / created or hot tags. It'd be great if there was a way to show all the posts with certain keywords.
But at the end of the day Steemit is still in beta.

For me, I feel as though this has been the best strategy to use, and I got lucky one time where one of my posts received enough quality upvotes for the HOT tag and BOOM it took off... I absolutely agree with you about the old posts being more readily attainable, and I think this would be a stellar way to keep quality content more 'searchable' as you state.
I can't complain though, steemit has been one of my best assets yet and I love tuning in everyday to learn and grow from what the platform has to offer.... RESPECT @conradsuperb
I guess we have to just keep grinding and see what sticks. In my case its photos I've taken and the stories behind them.
