Thursday Colourful Photography: Green Naga and colourful Baby Ganesha, พญานาคสีเขียวและพระพิฆเนศปางเด็ก

This is my entry for the colourfulphotography contest hosted by @juliank.

This is a large shop on the third floor of Amarin Plaza exhibiting various antique Buddhist statues and selling spiritual souvenirs according to Thai, Chinese, Indian and Brahma's traditional superstitions and beliefs. One could choose from a large selection of Tibetan religious objects such as Tanga, Dorje, bells and colourful flags; the Indian section covers all the know Indian gods and goddesses in brass, resin, stones and plastics. For Thai customers, the Naga especially the green ones are very popular while Ganesha is always very popular.

This shop reflects the need of people to have some spitiritual or religious objects for boosting personal psychological security and self-confidence. In times of changes and drastic economic downturns, more people can be expected to turn to the higher power or deity for help and moral support. There is so much uncertainty in life and so many elements are not under human control, so fate can sometimes play havoc to one's life without warning.

This is an alternative way to survive or thrive psychologically and spiritually by seeking divine help and favour. Many people has claimed that they became rich and successful because they seeked the help of some gods and goddesses. Some has claimed that green Naga came in their dreams to give them luck. Most Thais do believe in mysterious things that cannot be explained, while some will say that they never have the experience but they wouldn't rule out its possibility.

ร้านนี้อยู่ที่ชั้นสามของอัมรินทร์พลาซ่า มีการแสดงรูปปั้นเก่ามากมาย และมีร้านขายของที่ระลึกตลอดจนรูปปั้นตามความเชื่อของหลายศาสนา เพื่อให้คนนำไปบูชาเพื่อความเป็นศิริมงคล เช่นของที่มาจากธิเบต จีน อินเดีย และไทย รูปปั้นพญานาคสีเขียวดูเหมือนว่าจะมีคนต้องการมาก เพราะจะเห็นว่ามีหลายขนาดให้เลือก ส่วนของอินเดียจะมีรูปเทพเกือบครบทุกองค์ มีทั้งเป็นทองเหลือง หิน เรซินและพลาสติก รูปปั้นพระพิฆเนศมีหลายปางมาก และหลายขนาดตามความเหมาะสมของผู้เลือก

ชีวิตคนเรามีการเปลี่ยนแปลง และสิ่งไม่คาดคิดมากระทบได้เสมอ ทางออกหนึ่งของการรักศาลความสมดุลย์ทางจิตใจ คือการหาที่พึ่งจากภายนอก เช่นสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ตามความเชื่อที่มีมาแต่โบราณ อย่างน้อยก็ทำให้มีความหวังและใจชื้นขึ้นบ้างจะได้มีแรงต่อสู้อีก คนไทยส่วนใหญ่จะมีความเชื่อเรื่องลี้ลับซึ่งอธิบายไม่ได้ โดยมักจะบอกว่า ไม่เชื่อแต่ไม่ลบหลู่ คือเปิดโอกาสว่าอาจจะเป็นจริงหรือพิสูจน์ได้สักวันหนึ่ง นี่เป็นการแสดงให้เห็นถึงความยืดหยุ่นทางความคิด และเปิดโอกาสให้สิ่งที่เราไม่เข้าใจในวันนี้ มีโอกาสเกิดเป็นจริงได้ แต่การเชื่อโดยไม่มีการคิดหาเหตุและผลของความเชื่อก็อาจกลายเป็นอุปสรรคในการเรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ๆเช่นกัน
