Hazy... foggy... A positively delicious feeling of warmth and coziness enveloped every inch of Betsy's body as she snuggled under the covers. The intruder made his way into her room quietly, without fanfare, but boldly and steadily, shattering her dreams into shards that fell on her pillow. Slowly, her eyelids began to flutter like little butterflies greeting the intruder, a shaft of purest sunlight.

The walls of her bedroom began to glow under the aspect of the projected sunbeams. She smiled softly, threw her arms out from under the covers and high over her head, stretching, reaching, as if to carpe the diem. She only hesitated briefly before tossing the covers aside. As she swung her long legs to the floor and sat up, a small head perked near the foot of the bed and two little eyes blinked at her.

"Come on, Shadow!" she told the little furball, "Let's start our day!" As Betsy's bare feet touched the hardwood floor, so did four other little feet, and those six feet made their way towards the kitchen. The automatic coffee maker was most of the way through its process of gurgling forth her morning brew, and the fragrance of the arabica blend wafted through the kitchen.

She giggled as a furry little head brushed against her leg as she poured her first cup. "Okay, your breakfast is coming, you impatient little thing!" She put some bread into the toaster, cut some fresh fruit into a bowl of crunchy granola for herself, and prepared kitty's breakfast. Both dived into their food at the same time. Betsy, and her cat as well, were both happier these days.

No longer did she have to get dressed every day in hose and heels, business jacket and skirt, but could stay in her nightgown. Or pajamas. Or robe. Or whatever she felt like wearing. No longer did she have to fight the traffic on a morning commute, traveling in frenzied manner, from traffic light to traffic light, until she finally arrived at the office. No longer did she have to put up with a demanding boss who never fully appreciated what she did for the company, who never seemed completely satisfied.

The day she turned in her resignation was an immensely happy occasion and left her boss dumbfounded, especially when she told him that, no, she had not accepted another position elsewhere. She took great pleasure in his quizzical look as she turned and left his office to return to her desk and begin her two-week notice.

After breakfast, she headed for the bathroom to brush her hair, her teeth, and attend to other, unmentionable things. Her companion, of course, had to be close by to ensure her safety, for she would surely be lost without her little Shadow tagging along!

Next on the agenda was opening her laptop and watching it boot. Shadow transformed into a little ball on the other end of the sofa as Betsy loaded her favorite website. As if by magic, those shattered shards of dreams began to reassemble themselves as she grinned at her Steemit Wallet and began contemplating her next blog post.
