Colorchallenge: Monday Red

Aloha Monday, Folks!

This is the Byodo-In (平等院) Temple in Kaneohe. It is the main attraction of the Valley of the Temples memorial park, a mixed-denomination cemetery. The temple is a replica of a “real” Buddhist temple in Uji-Kyoto, Japan and was dedicated in the late 60's to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Japanese immigrants coming to Hawaii. It is a really relaxing place to visit for tourists and locals. I admittedly only visited for the first time rather late in life. Inside is a giant Buddha statue.

A popular thing to do is ring the large bell on the way in. I understand only priests are allowed to do that at a "real" temple.

The grounds are beautifully kept. There are swans and a large koi pond. In the back is also a small souvenir shop and sometimes people sell crafts on the path to the shop.

There are wonderful views of the majestic Ko'olau mountain range.

It’s a relaxing place to hang out and take photos.
