In the September of last year myself and my family ๐ช was travelling to Matara, Sri Lanka.. Matara is very famous city in down south in our country.. When we are travelling, We were visited to the Dondra Head Lighthouse is near to Matara City, Sri Lanka..

Dondra Head Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Dondra Head near the southernmost point in Sri Lanka and is the tallest lighthouse in Sri Lanka was designed by Sir James Nicholas Douglass and constructed by William Douglass of the Imperial Lighthouse Service and also one of the tallest in South East Asia.. It was built in 1889..
The Lighthouse is close to the town of Dondra, and is around 6 Km southeast of Matara city... The name of Dondra is an equivalent word for "Devi-Nuwara" in the neighborhood Sinhala dialect, "Devi" signifying "Divine beings" and "Nuwara" signifying "City"... Dondra is in this way determined to signify "City of the Gods"..

It stands 49 meters (161 feet) tall and is clearly visible from a distance as a freestanding white monolith... The range of the lighthouse is about 28 nautical miles or 52 kilometers... The lighthouse is currently operated and maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority... It's Octagonal in shape and painted in white in a carefully tended garden.. It is one of the four international lighthouses in Sri Lanka and the Lighthouse is as yet dynamic and aides ships and vessels and is situated at a critical point in the Maritime course... The Dondra Head Lighthouse likewise transmits radio wave signs to encompassing lighthouses in Sri Lanka..
Comprising of seven stories and 14 two board windows, one needs to climb 196 stages to achieve the highest point of the lighthouse where the view sitting above the sea is very stunning... Be that as it may, to climb you need to get earlier consent from the Ports Authority..
