A mermaid amidst the Stingerless Jelly Fish Lake in Sohoton, Surigao del Norte, Philippines, September 2017.

A few weeks ago I visited the Surigao region of the Philippines for a fortnight and wanted to try and fit some of my previous concepts there in the jellyfish lake. I contacted Kryselle, on of the photographer friends on my FB from that region to help organise the models. They travelled 12hours via bus from Davao City to Surigao City to be part of my shoot. There always seems to be a fair bit of travelling involved for any shoot I do in the Philippines compared to my local Sydney Australia ones.

I brought with me some mermaid tails I purchased last year for other shoots. We purchased some dresss in the markets around Pasay in Manila and fabrics in the Surigao town. We caught a ferry to Soccoro to stay the night and then rented a boat to Sohoton to tour and explore around and do some underwater shoots. Only when we arrived in the area we find the jelly fish a little more scarce then previously imagined due to not being the peak season. Regardless I've managed to make it work for our models

Model: Gladys Fernandez Ayuste

Underwater model shoots is a self funded personal creative art project I do for the sake of creating art and also challenging myself technically to improve as a photographer. Aside from being extremely challenging in all aspects its also one of the most expensive and high risk due to cost of equipment, chance of equipment damage that insurers will not cover, safety for myself and the model/team. Always great to get some feedback, support or help finding sponsorship/clients to keep these personal projects alive.

I thought it was dangerous to swim with jelly fish. Great shoots! followed, upvoted and resteemed you post sir. Keep it up.

These ones in particular have evolved over millions of years to lose their stingers due to not having any natural predators

Great job.thanks for share.

Nice post, Thanks for sharing.

That is a great photo. Jellyfish is poisnous so also a risky one.
Upvoted and re-steem to show my appreciation.

SteemON!

The ones have no natural predator where they live so over millions of years the stingers have evolved off them so they are rather safe.
