Climbing to the top of the Sacre Coeur Basilica

One of the great things about The Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris is that you can climb up to the top of the basilica just like you can at the Notre Dame and take in the incredible views of the city. We had arrived pretty much at last light and were lucky to still be able to head up to the top. After dark you can probably still go up and see the magnificent city lights, but without a tripod I would not have been able to get any decent shots.

As you climb you get some great views over rooftops and of some of the spires of the basilica. Check them out:

When visiting these kinds of buildings I always marvel at how they built these things.. more than a hundred years of construction and more than one generation of builders.. It's awe inspiring.

This last shot I took from the very top of the tallest dome in the basilica. It cracks me up because you have this wonderful view of the Eiffel tower in the distance but prominently in the foreground you have a hug street sign with the word 'sex' on it from the street where the moulin rouge is and all the other peep shows and sex shops.. it is a nice contrast to the romance of the Eiffel tower.
