Chrome 76 Beta, many new features coming up: dark mode, blocks on Flash and much more

in #chrome5 years ago

Google also published the beta version of Chrome 76 after the release of version 75. The next release is intended to implement several very exciting characteristics for the user, such as default blocking of the active Flash content and a fresh scheme to make it harder for sites to detect Incognito Mode.

Google has been one of the greatest proponents of the shift to HTML5 for years, and has been trying to persuade developers to update their Flash content to the recent, most effective and safe programming language to enhance user experience across all devices. Since the end of 2016, Chrome has begun to block some Flash content, while soon thereafter it has introduced manual plug-in activation for each site.

Adobe then announced the cessation of Flash assistance in July 2017, a factor that caused Google to announce, in turn, the removal of the browser plug-in by the end of 2020. Chrome 76 Beta is another move in that direction as it blocks the Flash plug-in by default. It can only be activated with the new Flash version via the https settings page: / settings / content / flash.

Furthermore, only by clicking on it can Flash content be enabled as it is today. The shift to the Incognito mode is designed primarily for those locations that use the so-called "paywall" or paid subscription mode to overcome certain boundaries placed on free consumers. On some of these locations, by merely activating Chrome's Incognito mode, it is feasible to circumvent the constraints, but with Chrome's fresh FileSystem API 76 this method should become less exploitable The Beta also introduces a fresh "Install" shortcut for Progressive Web Apps, which will update on Android quicker than in the past. The saved WebAPKs will allow the apps to appear on the launcher and in the system settings on the green robot's operating system, and the updates will be searched daily, not every three days as with the browser's present versions.

Very interesting is the novelty on Chrome for Mac and Windows that already has a dark mode for the graphical interface's address bar, tabs and other components. Once the operating system is set in dark mode, this mode is enabled and with Chrome 76 the applications will detect the option and can decide whether to activate a dark mode on the same site, thereby respecting the OS preference.
