Unlocking the Power of Chrome: Issue 28

in #chrome6 years ago

Buckle in, it is going to be a busy issue of Unlocking the Power of Chrome.

I have a lot of stuff to cover, as I am getting ready to take a short vacation and I won't be able to keep up with this series on my trip. I do plan on utilizing Steepshot throughout my trip though.

Additionally, I will be doing some more lengthy posts about my trip when I get back.

I feel like I have been throwing a lot of information at all of you over the last couple of weeks, and as the weather starts to get nicer I will be hopefully posting more camping and BBQing stuff.

Due to this, starting next week I will be moving Unlocking the Power of Chrome to an every two days format. This will only mean one less issue per week, but it will give me some extra time to work on other posts that I am excited about.

Before I get to my extension for this issue, I want to draw some attention to a post I read from @runicar. It is a great post that talks about two new extensions that have been developed to help you avoid the many phishing attempts that are plaguing Steemit lately.

I think that @runicar has done a great job of covering the two extensions, explaining how they work, and highlighting their creators. Make sure you take the time to stop by and check out the post.

Turn Out the Lights

The extension that I am going to cover today is called Turn Out the Lights. You can add it to your browser by visiting the Chrome Webstore here. It looks like the app developers had a website at some point, but I couldn't access it, so I chose not to link it here.

Turn Out the Lights is a simple extension that with a click, will fade out the rest of the screen when you are watching a video on Youtube. If you watch a lot of Youtube videos and get distracted by everything that is going on around the window frame, give this extension a try, it might be just what you need.

Remember if you have an extension you think I should cover, leave me a comment. I will do what I am able to make it worth your while.

I understand the concept, but, why wouldn't anyone just go full-screen? Maybe during live-streams and chats at most, but still, I prefer full-screen any time. Since it exists, it is probably useful, just not for me :P

I don't disagree, to each his own. Most people are probably watching Youtube on a device that has an app, but if you are on a PC in a browser it might be more beneficial. For example, if I am watching a tutorial video in Chrome with other tabs open that I need to work in. Thanks for the continued support!

Tutorial makes sense, I suppose. I only watch Youtube for entertainment; I turn off my second screen, and make it full-screen. If anyone interrupts, I am not going to reply. The me-time is a me-time and nobody is going to stop it! hahaha

Great post! Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more in your series!

Thank you!

I previously used this extension but now I my main extension for enhancing me youtube experience is that one: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/df-youtube-distraction-fr/mjdepdfccjgcndkmemponafgioodelna

It removes the recommended videos and you can also remove the comments. It certainly helps me with spending less time on YT...

Thanks for the suggestion, I might cover this in a future post!

Good that there's an extension for it, but they should really add that feature to Youtube itself. I mean they already have Theater Mode, so why not just add it to that?

But yeah, can't expect Youtube to do something decent...

Yeah. Good thing there is dtube now!
